Sues’s car the Honda civic its the battery is 10 years old and was flat this morning. it is one of those stop/start batteries so bit more expensive than normal. for the cost of having a mobile mechanic it works out cheaper than going to have it fitted, let alone the time factor.
When my battery finally claps out, bugger the more expensive stop/start battery, it’ll be getting a standard one. I never use the stop/start thingy anyway.
A stop/start system requires more power hence an AGM battery. Yes one could use a normal battery but don’t expect it to have a long life. It is not a question of if you use the stop/start or not, it is a question of how much it takes to start a car, and the drain on a battey. It is how much current it takes out of a battery and how much is put back in that weakens a normal battery leading to a shorter life
Having had a dabble about in the under bonnet fuse box I’ve found a fuse that when taken out disables the stop/start realspeed…That’s the theory anyway. Also, the starter motor is more complex than a standard one, so I might have to replace that also.
Once the anti stop start button is pushed in the van, it stays off forever providing you don’t disconnect the battery so no need to disable the system
Unfortunately, in my motor it defaults back on once you shut down and restart the engine…It takes me ten minutes to disable the Stop/start function, some annoying white line crossing alarm, and re set the heater to how I like it…Which all default back on…It’s a proper pain in the arse Spitty…
That would drive me bonkers, the start stop should not kick in till you have been stationary for say 30 seconds
Stop/start? Grrrrr. Such an irritant.
Honda?
I wouldn’t give a thought to battery costs. You already made your savings by choosing the latter, realspeed. They run forever. When I sold my first Honda, a Civic, with 200K miles, it was still humming along on the original clutch and with no major repairs. I wish I hadn’t let the men in my life talk me into selling it .
Ten years is a long service life of a battery. The longest battery life I’ve seen was seven years. Now, with those hybrid cars the original battery only lasted two years while requiring frequent charging and going flat after two weeks if the car is not moved, which is the case if you don’t commute any longer. I regret to say that the starter battery problem is a nuisance. Something needs to be done.
I’ve got used to this auto stop/start. Got used to disabling it as soon as I start the engine, that page on the touchscreen comes up straight away … one push of the OFF button.
I found Halfords good: They bring a battery to your home, fit it and take the old one away.
Interesting to note Surfermom, I heard on the news earlier today that Nissen have put an offer in to buy out Honda. My very first motorised transport was a Honda 50. I saved up the full amount and bought it brand new, I was only 16. There was never a weekend that I didn’t visit the coast on it…
I miss the Chicken Chaser.
Did you have one too Spitty? Had some great fun on it…
Of course I did, got it off the local Postman
Three speed auto, four stroke, so reliable.
Yep, that’s the one. It cost me two bob to fill up the tank with four star…
The garelli Tiger was a beast
Honda’s reputation both as a bike maker and a car maker has been impeccable to the unbiased. It’s just that the prices are a bit on the high side.
I think trying to tool up for electric vehicles has been the death knell for many a good car manufacturer Dachs. They are all trying to do one better than their rivals.
I’ve worked on one, but never ridden one Spitty.
