My favourite at the moment is this little rose, I think it’s called Sweet Dreams but I lost the label moving house. I’ve never seen so many flowers on one stem! It looks like a Bridal bouquet! I had already cut some from this bush for indoors.
The photo doesn’t do it justice as the buds are a more striking orange, opening to a peachy-pink.
I expect I’ll have another favourite next week!
The Hot Chocolate rose behind it is suffering from the rain
Beautiful, Tess.
Roses and Cottage Pinks are my most favourite flowers in the world.
I thought yours was the same as a new little patio rose I’ve just bought, but when I checked, mine is called ‘Sweet Wonder,’ and mine looks a little more pink.
This is not my actual rose, as mine has had it’s first flush and is resting, but this is the one I bought.
There are so many colours in Pinks, but they all smell absolutely divine to me. One of my most favourite is called ‘Memories’ and it is a pure snowy white. The perfume from this one fills a room.
(Again, not my photo).
Tiff, they don’t call that ‘The Butterfly Bush’ without good reason, do they. Yours is a beauty.
I have a smaller one than you, but mine is one of those 3-coloured ones - mauve, white, and pink blooms. They are not often all out at the same time though.
My favourite plant?..I couldn’t possibly say on the grounds that I may incriminate myself. But seriously : I love Australian natives which many of you would not be familiar with. My fave is the Waratah - the symbol of my state.
I like Grevilleas, they flower all year and attract birds.
I am not fond of plants like Azaleas or roses because they flower for about 5 minutes then are boring green (or in the case of roses - prickly) for the rest of the year.
When I bought this house 40 years ago the previous owners were rose enthusiasts, the garden was full of the damn things, people would call in to ask for cuttings (I told them to take whatever they wanted). I severely pruned the plants with a chain saw which lead to the following year being the best display ever. Following that debacle I attacked them with a mattock which solved the problem - my garden is a rose free zone :-).
Super plants folks!!
I love the smell of pinks Mups! That’s the only thing wrong with my little rose, no scent. That big bunch on the first photos is on one stem, so I’ll forgive its lack of perfume
My favourite flower is whatever is flowering at the time. The Salvia is good but equally favourite at the moment is this evergreen jasmine. It’s taken about 18 years to grow this big…
Some very interesting plants on the list so far.
Mine is plumeria alba (westindian Frangipani)
Its fragrance mesmerized me twenty years ago. I started growing them and for the third time in all that time they are blooming in my garden in Germany.
Pretty little flower Frank, (I aint writing all those numbers :-)), but be careful when cutting it as I have read the sap is poisonous and a skin irritant.
Might be safer to wear gloves.
It does and there is room to let that one grow and grow where it is.
There is another non-evergreen Jasmine that grows along the fence at the side of the house. It looks and smells good but the passageway is quite narrow. I try to leave it as long as possible before cutting it back but it has to be done in the end.
So many favourites that it’s impossible to pick one. Yes, I like snowdrops but also sweet peas, wisteria, old fashioned roses and clematis. How do I choose?
