Very often there is an elderly woman getting her exercise by going for a walk. I have no idea how far she walks but it would be at least 4 miles?
This morning she was walking down the centre of the road in her pyjamas and dressing gown. 3.30 in the morning.
Further along my route I see some small object on the road, as I near my thought was it was a large rat.
No, it was a small dog, a Chihuahua wearing a jumper. I did have to brake heavily as the little-un went out of sight in front of my car.
Reversing so as not to run over the little tyke, it scarpered along the road and I moved over to give it room.
At a T Junction there is a house with a dog that is obviously left outside all night. Closed in yard. This poor dog looks so forlorn every time I see it.
Middle of winter, less than 10 degrees and the dog is left outside.
To me it’s demeanor is one of sadness and depression. I become slightly maudlin every time I see this dog left alone.
I head to work at 0415 hrs in the morning. I know to go slow until I reach the highway. This morning a deer was standing on the road, eating grass beside the road. It didn’t move as I drove slowly past it.
The other morning a deer was standing on the right side of the road looking a armadillo standing on the road, just look at each other. Drive between the two of them, slowly, and there just stood there and the armadillo slowly walked back to its side of the road.
I see deer (a lot of deer) along this country road, but I’ve seen racoons, foxes, armadillos and worst of all skunks. I have never hit anything on that road but a deer run across in front of me and turned around and hit the bed of my truck.
On a busy morning, I might see ten vehicles on the way to work (about 17 miles to work).
If I saw someone walking around in their nightwear I would have stopped and checked up on them. The dog story is sad, unfortunately not much you can do about that.
Have you never been to the supermarket on a Thursday evening?
This is crushing, Bretwick. We are like gods to these souls and we so often let them down.
Here in Australia one can drive slowly past Kangaroos and all of a sudden the Roo will simply hop right into the side of my car. Happened once to me.
Always drive slowly past wildlife.
This lady regularly walks at this time of morning. I have seen her about twice a week for the last 12 months.
First time I have seen her in her PJs and night gown.
Really is sad. Eyes downcast. Let the dog inside during the winter. Really seems cruel to me.
That’s why I would have stopped, that’s not normal behaviour .Although perhaps in WA?
We haven’t adopted your big city ways here yet.
