I am a super Tolkien fan and the movies even though the last three being the Hobbit were not as great as I hoped. I still smile. I have read everything by Tolkien, he inspired my love of Fantasy genre.

@Arachne have to agree with you re the Hobbit films, donāt quite match up to LOTR. But still an enjoyable watch.
Itās still amazing that they have managed to bring it alive with CGI.
Think they are best watched on a large screen with cinema sound.
Have now both series on 4K, weāre a bit expensive but worth it

I went with my kids they were 10 and 11 at the time. But they loved the films and still do.
It took a long time to get a proper film adaptation of the books. Guess the technology to make everything seem real was not available till then.
What costume did you wear? You didnāt go as a hobbit with hairy feet did you?
