Looking for help. I was given a pair of earbuds with my new Samsung phone so I gave them to Mrs d00d. I played an old song on Youtube and she says it sounds fantastic! Now she wants some music (golden oldies) downloaded to her phone.
Just thinking of a way to do this … I guess I could first download to PC then transfer to phone via cable.
What do you say? And I’ve got a number of questions like where do are they stored on the phone (Android). Thanks
I can try to explain what works for me, speaking as someone who listens to a lot of music on my android phone - especially when shopping with the wife!
I originally had an Ipod years ago, but moved over to a phone as they became obsolete. I use a program called MyMp3Pro, which is a really old program I run on my old dilapidated laptop (Still runs on WinXP) which converts CD’s into mp3 tracks. I copy them to my main PC where I use another program called WinAmp (recently updated for Win10) which lets me edit track names & numbers, Album titles, Artists and all sorts of other stuff. Save the album files into a directory. Plug in phone to PC and copy files to a directory called Music (If its not there, create one) Incidentally, I also copy everything to a USB stick, which will play in my car, so I can have tons of music to listen to on the move.
I run an app called Musicolet, which is a freebie app (There are others, but this works for me), although it does have a few minor quirks, it does work quite well. You can make up favourites and playlists etc… It also runs when I connect my phone to my car.
I have had the need to take the soundtrack from a YouTube vid, run it through an online converter which takes mp4 to mp3, edit it a bit and stick it on my phone/car USB stick. Not sure what format Spotify music comes in, but if it plays on my PC, I could capture the sound with a prog which comes with Windows.
Get her a subscription to Spotify, I would not be without it, it’s cheap enough. Even better it soon learns what you like.
The great thing about phones is that they have Bluetooth so you can send the sound, not just to ear buds but to a soundbar, headphones or those tiny speaker things (eg JBL Flip 4) the sound quality, even for someone aurally challenged as me, is amazing.
My only coplaint about Spotify is the damn “remastered” LPs, I want the original not someone’s attempt to make the perfect better.
To be honest I am on my daughter’s family Spotify subscription so it costs me nothing - ask among your children or grandchildren and get it free.
BTW Amazon Prime has a similar thing - I keep getting messages from them telling me that I am not using it and I should be.
This video makes it sound easy but I’m still struggling with YT Studio (?)
@Bruce cheers. I’ve got a son in NSW who uses Spotify. He uses Netflix too but I’ve recently been told he can’t include family members in a different country! Hmmmm
What else have I learnt? Right firstly, what’s required is a Music Player, obvious to some but not me. One that works offline, one without ads. So that narrows it down. And a popular one is Musicolet. Now we need music files. YouTube music videos tend to be MP4, and we need a different format for playing on the phone offline, MP3.
When you copy some music files onto your phone, open Musicolet and there is a dotted button on the bottom right and the option to scan. When it’s scanned, it will pick up any music files it finds and will list them according to album title.
The only quirk with it, is you have to go into the dotted button option to close the app, otherwise it will stay active in the background when you don’t need it.
Possibly. It is a music player that plays what is on your phone. I don’t know what format Spotify comes down as, but it is primarily a .mp3 player, much the same as an Ipod. I’m not sure what other formats Musicolet can recognise - I haven’t gone that far into its functions. I just use it to play my music I have stored on my phone.
Yesterday I successfully got a track converted to MP3 and played it on Musicolet (on my phone). Went to play it again and Musicolet crashed, so my jubilation did not last long. I read somewhere that it could be caused by your phone’s power-saving settings. Buggered if I can make sense of it.
@Bruce I had about two dozen of my favourite CDs in a soft zip up case in my car about 20 years ago, and the car got broken into (or I forgot to lock it). Rest of my collection sort of fell apart, now I’ve got no CD player and maybe some CDs in a box somewhere. I lost interest in music years ago when I started to wear hearing aids, nothing sounded the same. And it’s true what you say about the remastered. I do like to sit at my desk watching/listening to YT videos … for old time’s sake.
Now, in 2025, I’ve got hearing aids with bluetooth relaying audiobooks, music too, into my ears, and enjoying it. And I got the earbuds, see above, for Mrs d00d.
I suppose we could get Spotify but we are both not too interested, like we once were. 4, 5, 6 LPs worth would keep us going for years, for good! So I’m still on the lookout for a free music player App, that has no adds and works offline. Although I haven’t given up with Musicolet quite yet. It could be something I’m doing wrong.
