Very…haven’t seen many recently because of our train strikes and Covid but I’m keeping an eye out for what’s on.
My local theatre has the Occasional gem.
I can walk there.
UB40 featuring Ali Campbell is here in June. Hopefully I’ll find a friend/family to go with by then
Can’t say I’ve been to many.
Pink Floyd about half dozen times
David Gilmour
Roger Waters
Eric Clapton
Gary Moore
Dire Straits
Mike and the Mechanics
Wow, great stuff!
Two of my absolute favourites!
Dire Straits and Mike and the Mechanics!
She was indeed… maths has never been a strong point but I think she would have been about thirty four. I was sixteen so I suppose I must have perceived her as being ancient
I haven’t been to many but one was very memorable. The drummer hit the guitarist with a bit of his kit,ran off to hide from the police and the injured was rushed to hospital. The Kinks,Capitol Cinema some time in the 60’s.AND we didn’t get our money back!
Murphy’s law!
It all happened on Queen Street!
I saw 'The Spy who Loved Me ’ in The Capitol when I was a student.
The Capitol was the biggest indoor venue at the time so they all went there.Although I have seen Bob Marley at Ninian Park,Dire Straits at the Arms Park and Hawkwind /Budgie at the Castle.
Good night everybody,
when I was eleven, I was possibly the greatest Queen fan ever. And guess what: they performed ONE gig in Hannover/Germany and my brother and me were able to be there in second row, directly in front of the stage!
If I was a theist I would claim that it was a god-like experience. As I am not I can only say that is how I imagine to meet a god-like person.
Some years later I saw Michael Jackson - hm far less impressive.
Then, ( as I am a bass player) Level 42, yippie!
Still, the two most impressive gig experiences were:
-
Earth wind and fire: I met two horns players backstage and they said they would like to do a session (with me) when I offered them a drink. Great/fantastic musicians and still humble and decent.
-
(most impressive): Seeing/Talking_to the “Dave Weckl Band”. I am a HUGE Jazz fan and Dave Weckl is by far my favourite drummer. I was blessed to see his band live once and they lived in the same hotel as I was. So we met at breakfast and talked a little. Normal, decent humble guys it seems, although seing them live is like having 2 Messi + 2 Neymar + 2 Ronaldo on stage.
Besides this one of the most dissappointing gig was Police on their last tour in Hamburg! It was like my grandfather + my grandmother performing 5 KM away and the cheapest entry fee was 100 EUR.
Good night everyone
I like it.
You like it? You must have a hawks eyes.
Luckily there was a huge screen which showed the musicians as we were so far away from the stage that you could only judge “yes there are people on stage”.
Sting did not move a single inch, did not say anything except singing the songs.
Streward wearing glasses as if he was reading something and Andy played a bit “blue” sometimes. Hm. At least I could make a cross in my list: “yes”, I have seen the Police live.
How old were they?
That must have been one of the stand out moments in your entire life. Truly epic! I’m so jealous!
That’s a nice way to describe it!
Did I read right? You were the base player for Level 42?
Loved the Marquee in Wardour Street…all painted black, intimate, two bars and no gloss.
The first band I ever saw in The Marquee was Little Bo Bitch.
Long live new wave/power pop!
Believe me it was. I was eleven when my Mom allowed me to go to that gig (with an adult of course). At eleven it feels even more devinely to see your heroes from short distance.
No no no! I have been a hobby bass player since 14 and of course Mark King from Level 42 was one of my if not the Bass hero. In those days we did not have so many distractions like today (mobile phones, Internet). So I had time and practiced like an idiot until I finally was able to play everything that Mark King played on the records.
Hi Psmith,
I looked it up. The Police gig in Hamburg was in 2007 and Sting was born in 1951. So he was about 56.
