I was out with the dog earlier and caught sight of these pretty mushrooms nestled between the roots of an old tree. Fairly certain they aren’t fit for anything, but they looked lovely in the sunshine so I took a photo or two.
So you don’t recommend them in a bacon buttie, then …
I love to admire the shapes and sizes of mushrooms! I took this shot last year during a trip to Cooperstown, NY (Baseball Hall of Fame city).
The markings looked like Chinese written on the tops. Amazing to me.
Errr…'fraid not, Omah… best leave these where they are.
Oh I like them, RN…they remind me of dried up leaves!
And why does this not surprise me… I might have known you would throw in your deep fried mush nonsense!
Awa wi’ ye!
wrong they are chanterelle mushrooms
Which ones? Mine or yours?
mine PixieKnuckles super tasty even deep fried
Aye alright…I’ll take your word for it. Again. I looked up Chanterelle mushrooms and I think mine might be the false ones…but I didn’t check the undersides or even touch them. The environment is similar to where they grow, but too many pollutants around to make them viable for eating. Not that I would, anyway…
Im led to believe false chanterelles dont grow here never seen any plenty of other tasty mushrooms just remember if your not sure leave it
I know there is a mushroom app you can get for phones, which identifies the edibles. I’m alright with plants and herbs, but fungi I’m really wary of…it doesn’t matter if anyone tells me its safe or anything, if it doesn’t have clingfilm on it, I aint eating it!
I’m the same as you Pixie, and wouldn’t dare eat any fungi I found. Not worth the risk unless you’re an expert.
I wonder if what you saw was Honey fungus, which kills trees.
Take a look.
Just found some mushrooms in my yard as well. They popped up overnight. They’ll probably go away soon when the weather here gets colder.
Lovely pictures, RN and ST. I don’t think my mushrooms are photogenic.
Yep that’s what I thought Mups. They chopped down a tree in the next street that looked just like this one.
They do look much the same Mups, yes…they way they are clustered around the roots, the shape, and the look of them. Interesting, thanks for that!
