Metric weights and measures

Bruce, you zero lover.

And a 1, you binary Fan

As it happens metric pans out great, 1000mm =1 metre, 1000metres = 1km, 1000kg = 1 tonne, 1000ml = 1litre. That’s it! How easy was that?[/quote]
Not to mention SI units of Volts and Amps but we all use them.

And what help is that when my measuring jug is in fluid ounces? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Do we? How frequently does an ordinary housewife use Sl units of volts and amps, do you think? :grinning:

Maybe you’ve got a point there, Boot, but having a mixed system is what we have.
I have no head for maths, so opted to stay with what I was taught and knew what I was doing.

9 fluid ounces is close enough. but you might be better off buying a more modern measuring jug

20 fluid ounces (1 pint) is about 600ml

I imagine your electricity bills might tell you from the kWh. And you just might know what the voltage is in your residence. How about your electric electric kettle?

:grinning:

Just think about it, whilst you are doing the Ironing. :grinning:

Hi

The vast majority of the World uses Metric.

The majority of the population in the UK were taught and use Metric.

We need to move on, not live in the past.

Well you’d need to know whether to put a 3A or a 13A fuse in a plug.
Or perhaps just a bit of rolled up silver paper!

Do you drive? Have you see the speed limit signs?

When I lived in the UK this sign meant no speed limit, I saw a lot of them when I was last there (except I think they still had a red circle as well) no idea what they mean now.

The other thing that was very difficult was the fact that speedos had both MPH and KPH printed on them which made them very cluttered and different cars had MPH on the inside or the outside of the dial they seemed to have no rule (obviously I only rented cars)

Yes, there are a few oddities. UK road signs are one but most cars use dual marked speedometers. And pubs serve draught beer in pints but wine glasses are in ml. Pretty much everything else is metric like food, clothing, etc

Oh I will Spitty. Just for you. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I couldn’t give a toss, Swim. And I certainly wasn’t taught metric at school either.
If I wanted 2" nails locally, it is no help whatsoever knowing they are using metric in Hong Kong!

I wanted assistance to know the equivalent, that’s all, but unfortunately the youngster working there was too young to know the conversion.

Easy, JBR. I would just look at the one I just took out!

Yes, that is indeed another oddity, I agree. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have. They’re cheap enough.

No clutter, they nest inside each other like a Russian doll.

A miss is as good as a mile, not a kilometre.
