Merry Chalkboard Christmas!

I’ve been having a go at chalkboard art.

I’m not very good yet and need to work on my lettering styles and try chalk pens

But it’s good fun, I have my board in the sitting room and it’s a fun feature. Plus if I do rubbish I can just wipe it off!

Looks very good to me.

That looks like a fun thing to do, love your examples! And the best thing about this? There’s minimal consumerism - just the cost of the board and the chalks, and virtually no wastage! Can’t think of many crafts where you could say that!

Good lettering. I couldn’t do that.

That takes back to my early school days, I used to love using a chalk board!

Obviously I was nowhere near as clever as you are, Maree! :grinning:

Certainly looks fun Maree and the chalk does it still make that squeaky noise…makes me shiver…
My memories are the teacher throwing his chalk at my late mate Rosi and I…
The maths teacher’s aim was spot on.
Like the sound of the chalk pens though…

When did a blackboard become a chalk board?

Thank you!

I’m very into upcycling crafts and this does fit the bill.

My chalk board I made out of a bit of old board from the kitchen refit with some blackboard sticky back plastic stuck on and some patterned tape round the edge.

Sorry, that posted twice

I’m not sure really, we always called them blackboards at school

But it seems to be called chalkboard art everywhere now

I’ve just Googled this because I always thought it was race related - apparently not.

From Google:
Quote
Why is a blackboard now called chalkboard?

While black was long the traditional colour for blackboards, a green surface, first used around 1930, cut down on glare, and as this green surface became more common, the word chalkboard came into use.

Thanks for that, I thought it might have been race related too!

Perhaps it was, partly, and that’s the sanitised version :woman_teacher:

where do you source your chalk Maree?

I just use Crayola kids chalks at the moment! 99p from Wilko

When I get a bit better I’ll invest in some proper chalk pens but until then it’s cheap and cheerful :grinning:

Your chalkboard work is really lovely
