Medication - How many a day

What was it used for Pesta? Checking what?

Thyroid. It was all part of the tests in the Endo Dept Pixie.

Actually, now Iā€™m thinking about it - you posted about radioactive treatment, which Iā€™m almost positive I didnā€™t have but have a vague recollection of knowing all about it. Whether because I was told about it because I could need it, or that I had it I canā€™t remember.

Now youā€™ve asked me the question about this scan, Iā€™m wondering if I did have it for this scan. It was pre-op not post op.

From Confused Up North.

The radioactive treatment was that I sat in a little cubicle, and the nurse had a lead lined box. She was in full gear, gloves, mask the lot - real heavy duty stuff, not PPE. She had a large tall box, and a massive pipe. The tablet was put into this long pipe and I had to take it like I was some native American Indian at a pipe smoking ceremony! I remember thinking at the time what a load of fuss and nonsense over a little tablet
You may well have had the scan for itā€¦I recall having various scans, including the dye-that-makes-you-feel-like=peeing

Nope, never had the radioactive treatment then. Iā€™d remember that.

Itā€™s strange as all the other details in your post and Tiffs, I knew about. I remember telling Miss Madam about it. It must have been explained about what might have to happen.

Didnā€™t have your ā€˜peeā€™ dye either.

That made me laugh about the native American Indian pipe smoking

Nothing quite like that for me. I was given by a nurse in full protective gear a little pot, in it was some liquid which I had to drink, less than a mouth full, tiny amount. Then I was told I could leave.

Oh short and sweet, Tiff, good! :+1:

Hmmm ā€¦ Iā€™ve had my thyroid scanned: no sign of cancer, but Iā€™m under observation with blood tests 3 or 4 times a year.

Well thatā€™s reassuring, Doodā€¦at least they are keeping an eye on you!..:+1:

Thanks, yes. GPs are elusive these days but itā€™s good to know the Thyroid people and Haematology are checking my blood levels regularly.

I havenā€™t had a blood check since the first lockdown. Iā€™m supposed to have one every six months. Its a bit concerning, but if my space gets used for someone who needs it, then so be it. I am supposed to have a yearly check up, but that was done over the phone last year with the consultant asking me how was I, fine? Ok then, byeā€¦ :joy:

This is my lot.
Also vitamin D and Cod liver oil, one a day.
Some years ago I was diagnosed with borderline Diabetes, since then the Metformin has been reduced to just 2 a day. Self blood test when I do it around 6.5. Also an under active thyroid, high blood pressure (yea right). Also low when I do it.
When diagnosed with diabetes, I lost 1 stone in a month and still now at 10 stone.

2 x 25mg/day Topiramate for migraines
2 x 50mg Sumitripam when necessary (for when a migraine actually breaks through which is rare these days because the Topiramate works really well.)
1 x 5mg/day Amlopidine for blood pressure
1 x 40mg/day Atorvastatin for whatever (just to keep my GP happy really. My cholesterol levels are relatively normal.
1 x 75mg/day Clopidogrel for blood thinner. My vascular surgeon prescribed these for me 3 weeks ago when I went to see him for a check up. These should have been prescribed about 6 weeks after the operation when I had my descending aorta and iliac arteries stented but that visit never happened because of Covid.
1 cod liver oil/day + 1 Vit D/day (now the sun has started to lose its strength).

Thatā€™s my lot

I donā€™t need to take anything, but hubby does. Heā€™s got high blood pressure, itā€™s been going up so he has to take another one with the first one and started taking statins as well. Have to be careful which high blood pressure tabs to take because some canā€™t eat grapefruit and he likes grapefruit.
He doesnā€™t have any symptoms from the statins at all.

There are many meds where grapefruit is contraindicated, so I always read all the bumf thoroughly before I take anything new.

Gosh what a lot of medication .I donā€™t take any but the occasional magnesium tablets because I have heard it is good for you .
Unfortunately it gives me terrible stomach cramps so I donā€™t take it on a daily basis

Hubby said to his doctor that he wanted one that was suitable for eating grapefruit.
We donā€™t take any supplements, donā€™t need them.

This is true. Statins are another one.

My Amlopidine tablets info sheet says exactly that - I canā€™t eat grapefruit or drink its juice any more. I like pomelo fruit too but I avoid them because they are the ancestor of the grapefruit.

I wonder how grapefruit reacts with these meds?
Why canā€™t we have it, Iā€™d like to know.

I hate it when leaflets or instructions advise me not to do something, but never explain why!

Right, then Iā€™ll explain why:-
It is usually advised to avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice when on some types of medication because it contains certain compounds that inhibit an important enzyme that is mainly found in the liver and intestinal tract. Due to this interaction between grapefruit and drugs, the concentration of this vital enzyme can be decreased in only a few hours, which could cause the drugs to stay in the body in higher concentrations, thereby increasing the chances of adverse side effects You have been warned, so ignore at your peril :astonished:
