Major Road out of Sydney Now Closed Indefinitely

It is turning into a farce the main western highway out of Sydney is closed indefinitiely

Geotechnical studies on the Great Western Highway have found significant gaps in the structure beneath the road.

The highway linking Sydney with Western NSW was due to reopen after three months, but the NSW roads minister now says there is no “proper timetable”.

We had the same Bruce, at Water Orton, some vehicle hit the parapet wall of a singletrack grade two listed bridge and knocked a couple of stones off, took a year of closure to get the necessary permissions to reinstate them, the poor folks of Water Orton for that year had to do a four mile diversion to get to Asda.

That is a nice looking bridge and I can understand why they would want to preserve it but the Great Western Highway is still using an old convict structure which has basically started to fall to bits and which should have been replaced years ago.

For a major highway the area around Mt Victoria is a bit of a joke, it is ridiculously steep and treacherous. The local shops and businesses that rely on passing trade are going broke, one reported 5 transactions in a week.

You need more convicts, we’ve got 100,000 spare.
