Lyrics that make one go, Hmmmmmm?

How many of us pay attention to song lyrics? Most of us I suppose.
Alice Cooper released a song in 1975 titled,
“Only Women Bleed”
It does not get a lot of air play because of the mistaken belief that it is referring to Women’s, That time of the Month.
It is in fact about a woman in an abusive relationship.

Man got his woman to take his seed
He got the power, She got the need
She spends her life through pleasing up her man
she feeds him dinner or anything she can
She cries alone at night too often
he smokes and drinks and don’t come home at all
Black eyes all of the time
don’t spend a dime clean up this grime
And you there down on your knees
begging me please come watch me bleed.

When I try to interpret the lyrics, was Mr Cooper writing about the frailty of women?
Or the strength of Women ?
The song evokes empathy from me by highlighting the pain and suffering some Women face throughout their lives.

There is always the stalker’s anthem.

This one confuses some :grinning:

I liked the song Born a Woman by Sandy Posey, but the lyrics are rather suspect, suggesting that she doesn’t mind being in an abusive relationship.

One that always bothered me was Hazard by Richard Marx.

“Hazard”

My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven
Even then the folks in town said with prejudiced eyes
“That boy’s not right”

Three years ago when I came in on Mary
First time that someone looked beyond the rumors and the lies
Saw the man inside

We used to walk down by the river
She loved to watch the sun go down
We used to walk along the river
And dream our way out of this town

No one understood what I felt for Mary
No one cared until the night she went out walking all alone
And never came home

Man with a badge came knocking next morning
Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly
:point_right:Pointed right at me

I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town

I think about my life gone by
How it’s done me wrong
There’s no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone

I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town

Yes I remember this coming out, late nineties? There was a strange video accompanying it and I never really understood it but found it really fascinating.
