Lucky to be found - rescued from English Channel

Rescued from English Channel.

Bit of a mystery of what the fella was doing there, and whether he’d told anyone else about what he intended to do so they’d know to call for help if he went AWOL, which he did!

Definitely a contender for the Darwin Awards, paddling an inflatable canoe in his swimming trunks across the channel, yeh good move mate

Wonder who’s going to pick up the French hospital bill?

Very foolish to go sea-kayaking without telling anyone - and even more foolish to attempt to cross the channel in a kayak, if that’s what he intended to do - as for wearing only swimming trunks, I wonder if he’s taken his clothes off and thrown them into the sea when hypothermia set in?
Paradoxical undressing can happen when hypothermia becomes severe and brain function is affected.

Lucky for him the fishing vessel happened to be passing by.

Next week, he’s going to try blind hang gliding using a quilt cover and jumping off the top of the Shard.

Another bluddy numpty, and a nose picker to pass the time away is my guess Dextrous63.

That is a good question. I have experienced French A&E (urgences) and it step 1, before seeing any nurse or doctor, was proof of payment. I’m in the French medical system so I simply handed over my ‘carte vitale’ and it was swiped. Then I got my token to join those waiting to be seen. I’m sure a credit card with sufficient funds would also have been accepted.
Presumably this kayaker would have had travel insurance?

That’s a mighty leap of faith, given that he doesn’t seem to have made any of the other reasonable preparations for his jolly jape.

Edit- apologies @strathmore, it only occurred to me afterwards that you were probably being sarcastic.

Yup, you and I are on the same page with this fellow. His poor preparation and planning was unlikely to extend to travel insurance. We can almost see the thought process:

  • I’ll get a little kayak, I’ll take it out into the channel, I’ll keep going until France, that sounds easy, what’s the risk, if there is no risk what is there to worry about, if there is no worry then what is the need for insurance?
    Closely followed by ‘oh’

@Dextrous63 , Strange innit ? When if you use the ‘F’ word in its proper sense
it’s ok ?
But if you use it when talking about amphibians it’s banned ??
Stand by , this is off topic l spose ! :confounded::confounded:

see see see what I mean full assessment means full assessment!!

Do hope he receives some help, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

Maybe he will realise now how precious life is… I hope he gets help if he needs it
