Liz Truss says 'jury is out' on whether Emmanuel Macron is 'friend or foe'

The foreign secretary did not pull any punches when faced with quick-fire questions from TalkTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer at the event in Norwich.

Asked if the French President and leader of the UK’s closest neighbour, Emmanuel Macron, was a “friend or foe”, she replied: “The jury is out.”

She added: “If I become prime minister, I will judge him on deeds, not words.”

That’ll be Truss’s “Maggie” impression … a great soundbite for the Tory Old Guard … :uk:

Truss should also remember that she will also be judged on her deeds and not her words.

Omah, you may wish to add the tag “deeds not words” to some of your threads as appropriate?

The electorate is not looking forward to the experience of her “deeds”… judgement will be too late when Armageddon is at hand … :scream:

Liz Truss will stumble around from one terrible decision to the next, helped along by her council of the deaf, the dim, and the blind.

Hi
Unfortunately France would win at present, they have not decimated their armed forces as we have.

Don’t forget we had to borrow planes to do something as simple as evacuate our Troops from Afghanistan.

Wouldn’t it be one in the eye for the EU though…

Well if it were true you would be able to have un hampered travel to France at least Muddy.
:fr:

True and you could apply for Dads Army .

Is this unhampered, or un hampered?

“the United Kingdom is a friendly nation, regardless of its leaders, sometimes in spite of its leaders” was Macron’s response to Truss’ ignorant comment.
Macron may not be universally loved in France or elsewhere but he can run rings around Truss all day long. She comes across the inexperienced, out of her depth and intellectually wanting. So easy game for Macron to provide a real slap in return, and I suspect Truss will be easy game for most other world leaders. This does not bode well for any future international discussions.

I don’t think she will last long, to be honest.

I thought Macron handled it well and really showed Liz Truss up as the small minded attention seeker she is :frowning:

I expect a lot of people in the EU despise our leaders and the Brexiters like that, and it’s well justified😢

I especially liked this bit:

“ “a friendly, strong, ally nation, regardless of its leaders, and sometimes in spite of and beyond its leaders, or any potential slip-ups they make when playing to the gallery.”

And the way he differentiated between the U.K people and our leaders and I hope they differentiate the same way between Remainers and Brexiters :eu:

I thought the Indepndent made a good point

Just imagine how the media, especially the Daily Mail, Express and GB News would have crucified Macron if he’d said the same thing as Liz Truss :scream:

And how their readers and viewers would have lapped it up

Hi

She is making so many enemies even before she starts.

She won’t be suffering the fallout, we will.
