Limerick (Part 4)

So in wedded bliss she lived her life
It was truly wonderful being a wife
And soon the children came along
But the marriage they didn’t prolong

So in wedded bliss she lived her life
It was truly wonderful being a wife
And soon the children came along
But the marriage they didn’t prolong
Because it caused her hubby too much strife

Soon poor Gertie was back by herself
Three kids in tow and back on the shelf
The kids grew up and then they were gone
And so once again she was wholly alone
So, lonely and broken she died through ill health

Get those hankies out and shed a tear for poor Gertie before we head on to another round of verse.

A young girl who wanted a cat

Why have you killed off poor Gertie?

A young girl who wanted a cat
Went to the rescue to have a chat

Because I was saddened by her plight. Once more she had her happiness snatched away so chose to end her suffering because she couldn’t or shouldn’t have to endure any more pain.

A young girl who wanted a cat
Went to the rescue to have a chat
She settled on a tabby all stripey and grey

A young girl who wanted a cat
Went to the rescue to have a chat
She settled on a tabby all stripey and grey
But he disappeared until today

A young girl who wanted a cat
Went to the rescue to have a chat
She settled on a tabby all stripey and grey
But he disappeared until today
And returned with a large black rat

She put the rat in the bin

She put the rat in the bin
And wondered about next of kin

She put the rat in the bin
And wondered about next of kin
But the rat started to smell

She put the rat in the bin
And wondered about next of kin
But the rat started to smell
So she rang the bell

She put the rat in the bin
And wondered about next of kin
But the rat started to smell
So she rang the bell
And poured herself a very large Gin.

A neighbour then tapped on the door

A neighbour then tapped on the door
She’d used all her eggs and needed more

A neighbour then tapped at the door
She’d used all her eggs and needed more
But our Edna had none -
Not even one

A neighbour then tapped at the door
She’d used all her eggs and needed more
But our Edna had none -
Not even one
So she sent her right down to the store…

Then along came a boy named Sue

Then along came a boy named Sue
She’d met him at the store in the queue

Then along came a boy named Sue
She’d met him at the store in the queue
He had red curly hair

Then along came a boy named Sue
She’d met him at the store in the queue
He had red curly hair
He’d dyed it for a dare
