Syrup of Figs and Milk Magnesia in a blue bottle were my two more hates.
I loved Delrosa Rose Hip syrup but that was very sweet.
If we werenโt well we were given Minadex
I realise this but from my memory the only pasta we had when I was a child was macaroni. We used to have macaroni cheese. You would never have been able to buy other types of pasta in our rural community. I remember tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce.
When I had my first child someone brought me in a bottle of Lucozade. I loved it! It was on my locker and when my consultant did his ward rounds he saw it and held his hands up in horror and said โyou might as well have a bag of sugar beside you. Very nasty stuff!โ i had never thought of it and our Mum always gave us Lucozade when we were poorly.
It was also rhyming slang for DEAD โฆ poor ole Jimโs brown bread if he goes 'ome in this state Except brown bread was pronounced bran bread with the O and W becoming an A.
Never tried it as a kid it was a hangover cure for parents after Andrews Liver Salts and AlkaSeltze. I liked the blue bottle in the bathroom cabinet. And OK I did taste it & yes quite yummy.
I remember being given that for upset stomach. They donโt make it now - at least - not with morphine in it. Apparently, when the Kaolin settled to the bottom of the bottle, people used to syphon off the morphine!!
