Syrup of Figs and Milk Magnesia in a blue bottle were my two more hates.
I loved Delrosa Rose Hip syrup but that was very sweet.
If we werenโ€™t well we were given Minadex

We were given Lucozade ( for medicinal purposes only ) and the yellow paper to play with .

Muddy, We got Lucozade when we were ill and off school.
The yellow paper was really scrunchy and sort of luxurious!

My mum used to try and sneak Milk of Magnesia in our tea and think we wouldnโ€™t notice!

I realise this but from my memory the only pasta we had when I was a child was macaroni. We used to have macaroni cheese. You would never have been able to buy other types of pasta in our rural community. I remember tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce.

When I had my first child someone brought me in a bottle of Lucozade. I loved it! It was on my locker and when my consultant did his ward rounds he saw it and held his hands up in horror and said โ€œyou might as well have a bag of sugar beside you. Very nasty stuff!โ€ i had never thought of it and our Mum always gave us Lucozade when we were poorly.

It was also rhyming slang for DEAD โ€ฆ poor ole Jimโ€™s brown bread if he goes 'ome in this state Except brown bread was pronounced bran bread with the O and W becoming an A.

Flowerpower, The Sister on the Maternity ward said the same to me, saying it was just sugar and water. I didnโ€™t care because l loved the taste!

Thatโ€™s so funny! Yuk! It was minty white chalk wasnโ€™t it?
We also used to be given Gripe Water. I liked the taste of that!

Milk of magnesia, aka magnesium hydroxide, can act as an antacid or as a laxative.

I LOVED the taste of Gripe water. I think I drank more of it than my babies.:rofl::rofl:

Never tried it as a kid it was a hangover cure for parents after Andrews Liver Salts and AlkaSeltze. I liked the blue bottle in the bathroom cabinet. And OK I did taste it & yes quite yummy.

We used to get a mixture from the chemist called Kaolin&Morphine, brilliant for hangovers! :joy:

I remember being given that for upset stomach. They donโ€™t make it now - at least - not with morphine in it. Apparently, when the Kaolin settled to the bottom of the bottle, people used to syphon off the morphine!!
