Oh, what wonderful posts from Ciderz.
A great contributor for scribbles. Whittington my Mil maiden name.
Gummy no nothing to do with the quiz. Yes, indeed the song that I have sung on stage a few years back is from my favourite musical Les Mis. x
I can do a quiz on just musicals, but unsure who would know them on here.
I suppose I better continue my story about my childhood tomorrow. I bet you all want to know what happened to my friend Michael.
and your singing career now???
CM - she always goes for beards - a “bugger of a tugger”!
Never a career Gummy. I used to teach. I had a school teaching Drama, singing and dance in Dover. I am too old for all that now. But occasionally I do a number at my sons’ gig.
I twiddle beards Gummy, don’t get carried away now.![]()
But occasionally I do a number
we bet ya do lady ; we bet ya can!!
Naughty boy. I thought you were unwell, you best go back to bed.![]()

Naughty boy, I think you are running a temperature.![]()
CHORUS:
Ring a Ring a Rosey
As the light declines
I’ll remember Dublin City
In the rare ould Times.
My name it is Sean Dempsey
As Dublin as could be
Born hard & late in Pimlico
In a house that ceased to be
By trade I was a cooper
Lost out to redundancy
Like my house that fell to progress
my trade’s a memory
I courted Peggy Dignan
As pretty as you please.
A rogue and child of Mary from the rebel liberties
I lost her to a student chap
With skin as back as coal
When he took her off to Birmingham
She took away my soul. CHORUS
The years have made me bitter
The gargle dims my brain
'cause Dublin keeps on changing
and nothing seems the same.
The Pillar and the Met have gone
the Royal long since pulled down
As the grey unyielding concrete
makes a city of my town.
Fare thee well sweet Anna Liffy
I can no longer stay
And watch me new glass cages
that spring up along me Ouay
My mind’s too full of memories
too old to hear new chimes
l’m a part of what was Dublin
in the rare ould times.

“Writing a poem is like having an affair, a one-night stand; a short story is a romance, a relationship; a novel is a marriage-one has to be cunning, devise compromises, and make sacrifices.”
— Amos Oz
Lovely Young Robert. I almost missed it. x

Aye be Jesus this will do:

d’ya wanna put one up for us all?
Nice one Ciderman.
Ah the rare auld times indeed RJ. I don’t know the city now it’s changed so much, especially in the last ten years, but what’s gone is gone and we must gently step aside for the next generations to enjoy it in their own way, and I wish them every happiness and hope they in turn can look back at their rare auld times.
So you wos on the stage Sweetie, good for you, I would have loved to tread the boards but now I have to be contented with boring the threads.
One of my favourite actors of the 30/40’s films was William Henry Pratt, born in Camberwell, better known by his stage name Boris Karloff. He was not exactly Oscar winning material but he was hard working and grateful to be earning good money, he once said “You could heave a brick out of a window and hit ten actors who could play my parts. I just happened to be on the right corner at the right time” How’s that for humility, and he never officially changed his name, when signing documents he signed William Henry Pratt (AKA Boris Karloff), and to keep a name like Pratt is the ultimate in humility.
He was a true gentleman in real life and every Christmas he would dress as Santa Claus and take presents to the children in Baltimore hospital.
He had one child, a daughter, and when his wife gave birth to her Boris was making the film “The Son of Frankenstein”, he dashed to the hospital still in Frankenstein costume and frightened the shit out of all the staff.
I’ve enjoyed so many films over the years, even some crappy ones that gave me a laugh they were so badly done, Ed Wood stuff for example, that it would be impossible to pick a favourite.
War films, Sports films, are a no no for me, just can’t enjoy them for some reason.
Boris Karloff
We need a pic. x

I’ll be having a go at the utube video thing later on Gummy, I haven’t flung in the towel on that yet.
I think Luke Kelly has a powerful voice, I knew the Kelly family and was at Lukes funeral, and later on the wake, his brother Jimmy was secretary of the Gold and Silversmiths Union, Irish branch, head office was in Sheffield.
I would love you to post Luke singing “Scorn not his simplicity” written by Phil Coulter, great song in my opinion.
