Leisurely Scribbles (part 5) (Part 1)

Jem I brought a few of the leisure mob down to wexford to surprise ya - but robert was in charge of the camera and he… well I’ll show ya what happened

everyone kept shouting - der he is der he is - but robert whizzed around too much?

Oh I say, there is no pleasing some.
I get lost in many a plot
Trying to follow a theme with you lot
But I won’t give up until you say
Go away now, come back another day
I would be sad, I confess
But is it me? I cannot guess

and I thought you were improving! [gumbud tears his hair out]

I’m not a loaf of bread.
I hate fishing, and I have never been to Wexford. I don’t like golf either, just for good measure.
I’m all out of love, but can’t post the toon.

I know a good carpet layer with nice rods??

I bet you do:mrgreen:
I will post a story about that tomorrow.
I will scribbles away, cos you ain’t seen my stories. Is that alright?
Tuff if not.

ah now ya gettin the scribbles style - well done - give her the badge spittie [he’s in charge of badge distribution] - he’s very good with badges!

I was walking with the Dog, in the Country Park, the other day, enjoying the solitude when out of nowhere, I heard someone shout Yoo-Hoo. I turned to see who was there, but I was alone, that’s strange I thought so on I walked, but, during the half hour walk, the same occurrence happened on at least half a dozen occasions. Naturally, for fear of hearing imaginary voices, I booked an appointment with the Doctor, to whom I recounted the happening, he did a few checks, and smiled, he said “don’t worry Spitty, your not cracking up, you’ve got Glue Ear”.

I have been as honest as I can be for one who is intrinsically a boring , pedantic, incorrigible & pompous old fart.

But I do object to being referred to as robert all lower case. GRRRRRRRR.

Love the animation Gumbud!

Clever Vignette Spitty.

Hi Sweetie

Hi Solo

Greetings scribblers, there’s a fine figure of a man shaking the hand that shook the hand of most of the world leaders in his day, great picture Fruity.

The wife had to drag me home from Wexford. lovely weather, lovely people, and wonderful pubs, what more could you ask for, and no language problems, why folks go out of their way to travel to far away places is beyond me, nobody understands what you are saying, the money is all different, and the heat would kill you, not to mention it costs a small fortune to get there, you can now Google herself down any street in any city in the world for free, the “I was there” factor is quite meaningless anymore.:-)
I do enjoy these little Summer breaks with the missus, you bump into all sorts of people from all over the World in Ireland these days, why go there when they come here?, plenty of American tourists this year too, and they all seem to have roots here, so many young vibrant people smiling and happy in the rare sunshine, and the odd few grumpy old gits who begrudge them their youth, some folks can never grasp the fact that every dog had his day.
Ah well as that great Dublin philosopher Mick O’Toole said “ The longer you live, the more you eat” he was one of the practical philosophers.

Good afternoonings all and one.

I enjoyed our few days in Co Wexford last year, along with visiting the city of the same name and environs.
Indeed, I enjoyed our whole tour of the Emerald Isle, and Norn Iron to boot. Truth be told the only difference I could see between the two countries was a sudden unexpected change in speed limit signage, with no “welcome to …” signs, and change in currency. I do not see how a physical border is going to help anyone post Pugrit.

So much beautiful scenery, especially the coast roads, and I may add, virtually no pay for parking spots on the way. It was just so easy to pull in a layby or wide bend, get out, admire the view, take iconographs, and then be on our way again without having to scrabble for loose change at every stop to feed a parking monster.
That’s how to encourage tourists!

Everyone one we met was most pleasant, and Jem, you are right, many peoples from all nations with a more than average smattering of colonials.

Mind you, we get that by here, mainly in the big city and county of Brizzle just up thik road. Every language under the sun, the hardest ones to unnerstaaan being from certain parts of the city itself. “Orl roight my luv-er” with a two octave rise on the last and extended syllabub.

It rakes allsorts, but I believe Bassets make 'em best.

Wot no pics AGAIN???

I did a whole series of picture threads from out grand tour of the UK and Eire In the travel and holidays boards.

I shall fetch the links if you wish.

Piccy threads don’t seem to be working for me at the mo. None of the pics are showing.

A bit of history practically on my doorstep and I never knew it, thanks google.
The Magazine Fort is a bastion fort and magazine located within the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Built in 1735, it was occupied by British Armed Forces until 1922 when it was turned over to the Irish Defence Forces after the Anglo-Irish Treaty. I must have passed this place a thousand times and never took any notice of it, all around the walls were high weeds and grass and some incline that looked like a big ditch, but seeing it all cleaned up and from the air for the first time today (in this photo) I see what a beautiful construction it is, never knew it was star shaped, as I’m sure many other Dubliners didn’t either.
Now there’s a question for the know alls in the local “Where’s the only star shaped building in Dublin?”:-)

Background.
In the 1530s, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, lands within what is now the Phoenix Park were confiscated from the Knights Hospitaller. These lands were later leased to Sir Edward Fisher. By 1611, Fisher had built a house known as “Phoenix Lodge” on St Thomas’ Hill.[6][7] By the mid-17th century, Fisher’s house and lands were returned to the state, and the house used as the seat of the Lord Deputy of Ireland.[8]
Although Thomas Burgh (1670–1730) had engineered a larger earthwork star fort quite close by in 1710,[9] by the 1730s, the then Lord Lieutenant, Lionel Sackville (1688–1765) directed that a new gunpowder store be built at St Thomas’ Hill on the site of the house.[10] Phoenix Lodge was therefore demolished in 1734, and construction on the magazine fort commenced in 1735 to designs by engineer John Corneille.[11] At the time the city was relatively poor, prompting the satirist Jonathan Swift to publish a verse on the seeming futility of the fortification:
“Now’s here’s a proof of Irish sense
Here Irish wit is seen
When nothing’s left that’s worth defence
We build a Magazine.”
— Jonathan Swift.
Wiki.

Thanks for that Jem.

no no Jem I meant pics of wexford !

well just finished watching the royal wedding - glorious weather heh? and what a service - blues style from the deep south! they’ve made their mark already. but they really married many months ago heh?

I don’t do holidays snaps Gummy but the wife takes a few now and then, she shows them on the big screen to her sisters on “Coffee mornings”, coffee my arse.
I don’t relish weddings royal or otherwise, but the misses and two of her sisters have it on, any excuse for a gargle with the dolly sisters. I’m sure there’s millions of bottles of "Coffee’ being drank in honour of the royal pair today, I do wish the couple the best of luck though, you need luck in marriage. rich or poor.
I’m out in the cabin looking at the racing on my small TV, the weather is terrific and the few cool cans of Guinness draught are going down a treat, here’s lookin’ at you kids!
I’m down to ten smokes a day now, no more cigars, nothing to do with me health or anything like that, it just seemed to happen naturally that I don’t feel like smoking as much as i used to, strange that, I’m becoming a much more relaxed person altogether, and Phyllis says she’s noticed it too.
Better quit now while i’m still in her good book, just in case she reads this, sly creatures some women are when your not around.:-)
