Leisurely Scribbles (Part 2)

My younger brother used to try to trace lost relatives, there was an old letter written in pencil and dated 1903 in the house, it said my fatherā€™s uncle Dave had struck it rich in the Yukon gold fields and he intended to come home and marry his childhood sweetheart.
He was never heard of again. All the brothers efforts with Canadian parish and police records seem to suggest he was murdered in his hotel as he was packing to come home. That was enough bad news for him so he packed up searching for any more misery, what the eye doesnā€™t see the heart doesnā€™t grieve for. :icon_sad:

Spare a thought for those without
Who live day to day from hand to mouth
The worry and stress is hard to bare
And some are driven to total despair.

Trying their best to keep up good form
Yet scared to turn on the heating to keep warm
So take to your beds and dream of the days we were free
Because now we all belong to the gas company.

My widowed sister in law was here today, sheā€™s on a holiday with her friend, sheā€™s a retired nurse of London Russian Jewish heritage, great sense of humour, something I admire in Jewish folk, and having worked with them all me life Iā€™ve had some great laughs over the years.

We were talking about the great leaps in prices and how bargains are hard to come by, thinking back she said she had many boyfriends when she was young but she was glad she married a good uncircumcised Catholic boy (my deceased brother) when she did, when I asked her why she smiled and said: ā€œ Because I got 10% extra freeā€.

Blimey, just crunching the numbers.

skinned alive heh? thatā€™s what the vicars daughter asked of the sailor " do you give 10% free??" been watching Parkinson Downunder shows - oldies but goldies - he had these long gone ones in some cases Jimmy Jewel I recall who did a great act with a ā€˜seaside chairā€™ and Pete Allen who I assume is still living ? Margo Fontaine I think etc etc - oldies but goldies

Like the poem jembo, but, no one gave a shit when I was in the doldrums, it maybe because, nobody knew. :grinning:

Didnā€™t gob off about it, maybe.

wot like you are now?? - also had a chat to sweetie_pie - she sends her heartfelt lukwarm love - sheā€™d just got back from jetting off to Gibraltar and talking to the rock apes? still very busy as a super mod!! she asked about you spits - I said you were still in the doldrums?

Some folks are still awake, nuff said :grinning:, donā€™t matter where you format as long as you have a deadline. :grinning:

deadlines are not efficacious things as far as hospitals are concerned - usually create a bit of a rush?

tried some new laxatives the other day - omg itā€™s either drought or full floods with no in between - and they donā€™t build in a slow warning mechanism either! - there I was just lying in bed musing away like one does when news from the cellar buzzed up frantically - bedclothes flying and a dash across the floor - bloody hell just managed to sit down on the pan with me newspaper and it started - should have started with the kids doses I suppose. but now itā€™s all over and feeling a little light headed and not carrying so much weight - just thatā€™s a weight of my wellā€¦ you can fill in the details!! feast or famine. And then you get to thinkin now perhaps it was that partially raw salmon slice I had for supper or maybe the extra glass of Coopers Devilā€™s Half Ruby Porter?? still theyā€™ll be celebrating in the ā€œtestine Innā€ this morning thatā€™s for sure!!

You need to listen to your body gums, never get ā€œLaxā€ with your tives!!

Was busy today, had a Piss at 8.30 am, next one 6.30 pm, no time for pissing about here!

Well thatā€™s news to me, Spitty was down in the dumps and Gummy was nearly poisoned, truly sorry to hear that lads and I hope you are both well on the way to recovery.

Donā€™t want to sound like a Dutch Uncle Gummy, but fish of all breeds are a very dodgy food to eat, I would never dream of eating sell/by frozen or tinned fish after I had a very bad experience when I ate a small tin of salmon, I was hospitalised for a week back in 1988, never again, if you canā€™t get fresh fish forget about fish, that old saying ā€œSmells a bit fishy to meā€ was not born of collective gossip, be careful, be very careful, you only got one stomach so look after it.
My fishmonger gets his stock straight from the fishing boats at Howth harbour, heā€™s expensive but his fish is delicious and very safe.

I had to laugh at the Irish weather report this morning, ā€œheatwave is over, back to more wind and rain with below average temperaturesā€
The ā€œheatwaveā€ lasted a little more than 24 hours and the temperature was 20% at itā€™s highest, it came mostly during the night with daylight obscured by thick grey clouds, most depressing all day and tough to sleep at night.
Meanwhile England and the continent ware basking in sunshine and heat of over 30%. I have to be honest and say no one died in the ā€œheatwaveā€ here barring an old 98 year geezer accidentally left out in the open on the grounds of a nursing home, the sun had made a dramatic breakthrough for five minutes and he died of shock, such can be the result of the Irish weather system. God rest his old soul.

The weather people always want to wring out an extra degree in a heatwave..

the other fishy affair I am rather fond of is rollymops -that raw stuff rolled up and soaked in a jar of vinegar. But by God leave them for too long soakin even in the fridge and they can bring you to your knees seriously on your back! I have one more slice of supposedly fresh salmon to go so will fry extra rubbery this time.

today i had some sorta paste spread on some sorta cracker - quite perky actually swilled down with some sorta coffee - have almost given up the ancient art of tea drinking and have black coffee - the real ground stuff with a few sweeteners - wonderbars !! stirred away from the traditional english breakie and now favor the asia one of course - half of my family is now asia so why not - and 3 yrs in old honkers started it all off/ - canā€™t beat a nice chop suey for breakie or the real traditional congee with salt and vinegar!! mind you I am still partial to black puddings and pork pies - and a good Indian curry in between - any dietary needs changed on here apart from moribund lunches??

heh just heard that someone got over 20yrs jail sentence just for talkin to young girls - better be careful on my daily walks and talks??

Good moaning all and one.

My dietary needs have changed somewhat since being diagnosed with a dicky ticker.
Low salt, low fat, a daily fluid limit, and a weekly alcohol limit.
I do miss a good curry, and now I have to actually read the labels on foodstuffs before buying things.
I am partial to a good pig-tart (pork pie), but finding a really good one is so hard. Some of them are alright, and some of them are quite nice, but I strive for the most excellent taste I remember from my yoof.

My Lovely Cousin has had to drastically change her diet having been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia to add to her IBS.
No spice, no acid, gluten free, dairy reduced.

My Outlaws live with us, and they come with their own dietary needs as well.

Meal planning can be a bit of a task sometimes, but I have been able to adapt many recipes to suit all parties. I make a mean traditional rice pudding with almond milk, and you really canā€™t tell itā€™s not made with moo-milk.

Well, my pooter is flying along now. It had been going progressively slower to the point where it was in danger of being thrown at the wall. Isnā€™t it strange that within living memory, if you wanted information you would have to wait until you could get to the library and spend hours looking up stuff in the reference section? Now we get frustrated when a web-page takes minutes not seconds to load.

I found that I had two anti-virus programmes running that appeared to be fighting each other, and removing one of them halved the time it took to load stuff, but it was still annoyingly slow. A friend of ours recommended a pooter repair shop in the next town, and they have fitted a new solid state hard drive. My, what a difference it has made.

My current self harming (DIY) project is nearing the end, and Iā€™ve got the splinters and cuts to prove it. My wood store has taken a good hammering, and Iā€™m struggling to find framing timber now. Rather that buy some, Iā€™ve resorted to cutting up old planks and floorboards. My bandsaw has taken a good hammering, and Iā€™m down to my last blade, but Iā€™ve had trouble finding replacements.
Iā€™ll have to hit the online tool-shops and see what they are giving away.
