Cardi B was on stage performing in Las Vegas when an audience member appeared to throw a drink at her. Clearly upset, she reacted immediately by throwing her microphone into the crowd as security guards rushed to the stage.
Wiki says:
Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus (born October 11, 1992), known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper. She is known for her distinct aggressive flow and outspoken lyrics. Born and raised in New York City, she first gained popularity through Vine and Instagram. From 2015 to early 2017, she appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York, which depicted her pursuit of her music aspirations, and earned further recognition with the release of her two mixtapes: Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 (2016) and Vol. 2 (2017).
Well, her “aggressive flow” continued after she threw the mic so she was apparently lip-syncing …
However angry she might have been at getting wet (it might have been acid, of course), throwing a microphone at the audience (with some force) seems totally irresponsible - it’s unlikely to have hit its target and probably hit an innocent bystander instead.
In litigious America, whoever was hit by the object might well sue the rapper for injuries sustained.
Yes, not a good reaction to throw the mic into the crowd - maybe a kind of reflex reaction caused by fear and anger?
The singer shouldn’t have been attacked by anyone in the audience in the first place - it’s the person throwing the liquid who is mostly at fault for throwing the liquid at her!
That wasn’t an accidental splash of drink, it was a deliberate throwing of the contents of that cup - and it must be a heartstopping moment for an artist when they have no idea if the liquid hurtling towards them is harmless or corrosive. It could have been an acid attack - how scary these attacks must be for the performers when they are up there on stage.
There seems to be an increasing number of weirdos throwing things at artists who are performing on stage. Sadly, they will spoil it for everyone else - if it continues, singers and bands might end up performing behind glass screens or stop live touring - there’s always a few people who don’t care if they spoil things for everyone else.
I don’t know if these idiots get their photo and details recorded on a concert-going blacklist but they should!
My first reaction was much the same as yours … but it seems there is a back-story:
Fans in Las Vegas reportedly waited two hours in 112 degree heat before the star showed up to perform.
The hip hop star reportedly even asked fans to throw water on her as she complained about the excessive heat in Sin City.
It wasn’t the first time this weekend the rapper — who just released a new song with her husband Offset titled Jealousy — decided to use her microphone for something other than singing.
The night prior, Cardi was performing at Drai’s Beachclub when she became irritated after the DJ was allegedly cutting off her songs too early.
In a clip shared to social media by user kfen777 the entertainer was seen shouting out her name before turning around and flinging the microphone in the direction of the DJ as if she was throwing a football, before walking off stage.

Legal issues
On October 1, 2018, Cardi B agreed to meet with investigators at a Queens police station in connection with an alleged assault of two female bartenders. The victims claimed that Cardi B and her entourage “threw bottles and alcohol at them.” She denied involvement. She was charged with two misdemeanors: assault and reckless endangerment. Cardi B appeared in court for her arraignment on December 7, 2018, after she did not show up for the originally scheduled date due to a scheduling conflict, according to her attorney. On June 21, 2019, a jury indicted Cardi B on 14 charges, including two counts of felony assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, stemming from the incident. She was arraigned on June 25, 2019, and pleaded not guilty on all charges. On September 15, 2022, she pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment, resulting in a sentence of 15 days of community service.
Cardi B sparked controversy after throwing one of her high heel shoes at and attempting to physically attack fellow rapper Nicki Minaj at a New York Fashion Week after-party in September 2018. Following the altercation, she alleged that Minaj had previously “liked” social media comments that spoke negatively of Cardi B’s ability to take care of her newborn daughter. Minaj denied the allegations, and accused Cardi B of cyberbullying in a heated Instagram exchange from 2014.
In March 2019, an Instagram livestream from 2016 resurfaced where Cardi B can be heard claiming that in the past she “had drugged and robbed men” who willingly came with her to hotel rooms for sexual intercourse. When video of the livestream resurfaced, she stated that the men she referred to were conscious, willing and aware; they were getting “twisted in the club” before approaching her, and denied ever putting anything in a man’s drink. She added that she took some money from them because they wasted her time by falling asleep, and then “kept coming back.” She concluded by saying that at that time she had very limited options to survive, and feels a responsibility not to glorify it.
The more I read about the former Bloods gang member and stripper from New York the less I am inclined to “like” her - she’s apparently immensely conceited with a foul temper.
These are the lyrics (unreproducible on this forum) from the “song” that she was “singing” when she was attacked with a “beverage”:
I have heard the name of this singer once or twice but I don’t know anything about her, so I can only comment on the video clip I saw.
If the singer had already asked the audience to throw water on her, that puts a different complexion on it, but I didn’t see any of that in the video clip that was included in the news report - and it wasn’t clear what the thrown liquid was - was it water?
The report only referred to it as a drink, so it may have been some sticky sugary drink.
Adele, apparently, will take stronger measures to deal with the “throwing” issue:
Adele addressed the issue at one of her recent shows, warning her concert-goers against throwing something at her on the stage.
“Have you noticed how people are like forgetting f—ing show etiquette at the moment because [they’re] throwing s— on stage? Have you seen them,” Adele told her Caesars Palace audience. “I f—ing dare you. Dare you throw something at me and I’ll f—ing kill you,” she said.
Of course, she’s joking … but if she ever throws a mic from the stage and kills someone then those words will come back to haunt her …
A woman hit by a microphone thrown by Cardi B during a performance over the weekend filed a police report following the incident, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.
An individual reported a battery at Drai’s Beachclub after she was “struck by an item that was thrown from the stage” during a concert on Saturday, police said. No arrests or citations have been issued.
A representative for Cardi B did not respond to CBS News’ request for comment. The artist has yet to address the incident directly, but she did retweet a video of it. Prior to the incident, Cardi B was heard asking audience members to splash some water on her.
Cardi B will not face any criminal charges after throwing a microphone at a fan over the weekend. On Thursday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the rap star’s criminal investigation had been dropped.
“After a thorough review of this case and with the consultation from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, this case has been closed as having insufficient evidence,” the police statement read. “No charges will be filed in relation to this case.”
Cardi’s attorneys — Drew Findling (1), David Chesnoff, and Richard Schonfeld (heavy-hitters) — also confirmed the news in a statement to Rolling Stone.
“On behalf of Cardi, we appreciate the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept’s diligent and prompt resolution of this matter,” they said.
Donald Trump has new legal representation in the criminal investigation into his alleged election interference in Georgia — and he could bump into Cardi B at his new attorney’s office.
Drew Findling is a prominent Atlanta-based lawyer who’s known for representing stars including Cardi, Gucci Mane and Migos, as well as his wide-ranging criminal defense work in Georgia, where a special grand jury is looking into possible illegal meddling in the 2020 presidential election.
Findling is known in Georgia’s hip-hop community as a “witch doctor,” a “magician,” a “god in the streets” and “the illest,” according to a 2018 New York Times profile headlined, “Atlanta’s #BillionDollarLawyer Is Looking Out for Your Favorite Rappers.”
The hashtag is one Findling uses on his Twitter bio and on Instagram, where his feed is filled with photos of him posing with rappers and captions congratulating them on their successes.
