I was curious why they made him leave 17 days early and found this article attached to the article in the OP.

The broadcaster was set to leave his mid-morning weekday show at the end of March, saying goodbye to his loyal listeners of 31 years. However, it has recently been reported Ken will be leaving his BBC Radio 2 show early due to the BBC becoming “frustrated” over the “free advertising” for his next station.

A source claimed to The Sun: “The BBC believe that every second he is on air is just free advertising for his new show on Greatest Hits Radio.

“They became frustrated by the rival station launching a marketing campaign for his show. It leaves a sour taste.”

Sad that it had to go down that way.

I hardly ever listen to the radio at home but I occasionally listen to it in the car and I quite liked listening to Ken Bruce and his “Popmaster” Quiz if it happened to be on when I was driving somewhere.

I had no idea he was leaving the show but, by a big coincidence, I decided to listen to the radio while I was at home this morning - very rare for me to think of doing that - so I happened to hear Ken Bruce’s last broadcast this morning.
Quite sad that he is leaving when his show has been such a long-term fixture and he is still such a popular DJ but things can’t stay the same forever and after over 30 years, maybe he thinks a change is as good as a rest!

Ken Bruce had a dry sense of humour as I remember.
He’d gently take the piss out of Jimmy Young as he handed over the microphone…

Vernon Kay?!! Sheesh, well that’s me not tuning in whist driving. It’s a pity GHR is not broadcast on the airwaves; if it was I’d be able to listen in the car.

I have listened to Ken Bruce for years, but lately just the pop quiz. Due to other commitments, I always take time for the quiz though, whenever I can, which is most days.
I have already tuned my radio into Greatest Hits Radio off Radio 2, where it’s been for the past many years. I shall listen to it before he starts broadcasting too, as I prefer the music there having listened to it today.

listened occasionally on way to work and the quiz’s. Didn’t realise that he was leaving to go to another Radio station, seemed strange cutting his leaving a bit short though.

I think he is 71, bit late for change, he should have quit completely and took up his walking shoes.
