Junk Food, (what is it)

There is so much talk about the banning of advertisements for Junk Food next year but, what is “Junk Food”? it seems pretty subjective, everyone seems to have their own pet hates and opinion on the subject, any food can cause weight increase if a person eats enough of it so, lets see what people actually think is “Junk”.
Lets start with Chocolate.

I see junk food as anything that has been chemically interfered with to give it longer shelf life or add flavour. Most so called junk foods - burgers etc are okay if taken in moderation.

I’m far more bothered about all the food that has been irradiated

To me junk food is the food that comes from fast food shops or outlets. Mostly containing sugar, salt and fats plus lots of E numbers, It’s often cheap to buy arrives in a box on the back of a motorbike but sadly is really tasty.

I dont see anything as junk food unless its got additives + E numbers .

Last night I saw the photo that was put up regarding not advertising before 9pm ,

it was Chips and Burger , if you break it down , thats Potatoes and Beef , I eat take aways once in a while , its convenient, …at Home I make my own Chips and burgers , How are the government going to police home cooking ,

I have read if a food is high in salt, sugar, some fats or contains ingredients you would not find in your kitchen (chemicals and some e numbers) and highly processed food it is junk food .

Dark chocolate eg 80% is not junk food but very good for you being rich in nutrients, I am supposed to eat a square every day for health reasons but don’t like it so really struggle to eat it.

I really can’t get hung up about definitions. If I fancy something junky then I’ll go for it!
Not everyday, it’s just about balance.

I am a strict vegetarian leaning towards veganism, who buys organic produce when I can.

Even so, I don’t need the government to be my mommy and daddy or to parent my children by restricting what can be advertised and what can’t.

Instead of telling people what they can’t do, how about the government stop meddling and use their Big Brother assets to do a better job of teaching and rewarding people for good choices and living?

But now you’ve gone and left me craving a Boston cream doughnut. :sunglasses:

Food you feel guilty about eating.

This is what I call a burger …

It’s a long video but worth it.

I think you misspelled “myocardial infarction” .

Junk food is food that is low in nutritional value including fiber, and usually high in calories. Example: a sugar-coated donut made from white flour. Since there is little or no fiber, it’s easy to eat several of them.

I suspect I’ve eaten that in some caffs I’ve been in.
