I've just discovered a really clever feature!

I started to type a post on my laptop for the Good Morning thread, and then realised I wanted to insert a photo from my iPhone. Now, if I was on my iMac that would be simple because you can copy and paste between Apple devices. But this is a Windows laptop, so I had two choices - I could finish the post, submit it, and then edit it on my phone, or I could open the thread on my phone and re-type everything on there. I decided on the latter.

But no! When I opened the Good Morning thread on my iPhone, there was my post, still in the reply box waiting to be completed! How brilliant is that? Another plus for this new site!

Good you found that ability, Bathsheba. I wouldn’t have a clue, never use a laptop & don’t have a smart phone either.

Apply syncs everything to each Apple device. Its quite cool, but it kind of keeps you tied to Mac things (Mwahahaha) :icon_evil:
My daughter has that and its good for music etc, but she finds it difficult for documents etc.

I use two Macs also I have an iPhone and find it very useful what they can do, all very clever these computers aren’t they! The only thing I do have trouble with is that all three have different Apple IDs so photos stored on one, on iCloud, cannot be accessed from the other two. Often I finish up e-mailing the required photos to myself on one of my four email address which can be accessed by all devices. That’s all OK providing I can remember what I’ve done and where the various required photos are! :upside_down_face: :grinning:

All my photos automatically sync to all Apple devices. However, just lately my iMac has given up doing this. It’s very old, very slow, and for some reason my iPhone photos simply stopped appearing on the photos app a few months ago. They still sync to my iPad though, so I don’t know what’s going on there. Maybe just far too many photos, haha - there are thousands and thousands of them! I would delete lots, but last time I tried deleting a photo from my iMac, it took half an hour to complete the task. Yep, that’s how ridiculously sluggish it’s become. I need to replace it!

I wonder if that might be something to do with the app used for photos, that was changed from the iMac when it was called iPhotos I recall, the latest app for photos on Macs is Photos. It’s unusual for Macs to slow down that noticeably, perhaps as you say you’ve just got rather a lot on there? My iMac is a 12-year-old 27" model with plenty of space and storage as before retirement I used to produce magazines on it. You may not need to replace the iMac, instead perhaps it just needs some TLC to sort it out! What OS are you running on it? :grinning:

It’s the latest one, whatever that is - can’t remember as I’m not on it at the mo! But I do always update the OS as soon as a new one’s available. I don’t think it’s to do with the app changeover because that was a while back, and it carried on happily syncing to the new ‘photos’ app, but just stopped inexplicably about 6 months ago.

Afraid I wouldn’t know where to start to give it some TLC, haha! Perhaps I ought to take it in somewhere, but I’m always nervous about doing that, never know who to trust really. You read such shocking stories about techy people having access to all your data - passwords, emails, and so on.

Any photos I take on my (Android) phone are automatically transferred to Dropbox which automatically makes them appear on my laptop and desktop. Not quite as clever as your report but effective none the less

Bruce…so Dropbox syncs with everything too? I didn’t know that…I haven’t used it, but I used Evernote for a few years.

Yes if you tell it to. If I take some photos while out with my phone they are on my laptop when I get home.

I only use the free Dropbox service so every few years on my laptop I move the photos to a different folder in my Photograph library, then delete all the photos in Dropbox (remembering to tell it not to delete them off my phone) and start again with an empty Dropbox. It is really just the same as Onedrive or Google Drive.

Sounds like a good idea Bruce. I have a Dropbox account, but don’t really make a lot of use of it. Perhaps I should start doing this and then at least my phone photos will sync to my laptop, if not my iMac!

Well spotted @Bathsheba :023:

The forum saves ‘drafts’ as you type, and those drafts are saved for your account… so if you log in on another computer or device later, your draft will still be there :003:

You can find all of your drafts here:

I wonder if we need a dedicated section to house threads like this… they could be useful for newcomers

That would be a very helpful resource, I reckon Azz.

What do you need help with Gumbud?

well other members have given me the direct link to the announcements and help thread but when I type these words into the empty search box far upper right [find a topic] on page nothing appears - I have been searching for ages just to browse?

Try clicking on this link, it might be easier:

thanks Baz I finally found my way to it - I don’t give up easily but right now things are confusing particularly for the elderly!! let’s not forget our special needs?

:023: That’s OK, no problem.

I don’t know your definition of ‘elderly’ so I could be that too but will never accept it, despite family saying that so as to take the ‘Mickey’. I may be an ‘older’ person but not ‘elderly’. I’ve been finding my way round this new site, not without problems as with many of us. Persistence and use is the answer so good to read that you don’t give up easily, that’s a plus point to learning anything new I reckon. :grinning:
