Is this Australia's Cutest Critter?

Very destructive :grinning:
We have to keep planting stuff to keep up.
Because so many neighbours have cut down their trees ,they find it difficult to move about and can get stuck in one place.eg: our garden

Why have your neighbors cut their tree’s ?

I myself would love to have them in the area but yes I suspected bit destructive going by documentaries I have seen on tv about them

When sugar gliders first available in the USA they were incredibly popular but over time many realized bit more difficult then they thought .

Most blocks here are 2/3rd of an acre. They used to have small houses and big gardens.Younger people moving in want big houses and smaller gardens filled with pools and outdoor entertainment areas, fire pits, etc…so the only thing growing will be a patch of lawn and some ornamental shrubs.
(Our next door neighbour has left two trees so he could install a zip line,so we get disturbed by his screaming brats and their friends on warm summer evenings)

I can not stand younger people , in fact I often go out on my front lawn and yell " You kids get off my lawn " yet no one on my lawn and truth is thankfully no young people in my area .

I hit the jack pot as regardless of time / day my area is a Ghost town and the neighbors are the best people going .

Ironic isn’t it as younger people scream about nature , the environment but pouring cement over grass is what they do when they buy a house .

A friends neighbor here sold her house and she had an incredible Japanese style garden with a pond / water fall beautiful dwarf palm trees which attracted lots of wild life .

The new owners removed it all and now all cement , there house their right but yes this is now the norm .

They do the same over here. Concrete it over for parking their surplus of cars.
When I was a kid one of my neighbours in my street used to do the most wonderful topiary creating sailing ships out of his hedges… with the odd owl sitting on the end.

That is a shame and again their property but in my case I prefer grass , plants and yes the snakes which visit .

Erm … you can keep the slithery things …they’d scare me but I love grass, greenery and flowers.

Snakes are harmless granted there aren’t any pythons or venomous in my area ( not hat I know of ) we have lots of garter snakes , water snakes , corn snakes and sadly 2 of my favorites ring neck snakes and rarely seen but lovely scarlet kingsnake but Green Ameiva or Giant Ameiva (Ameiva ameiva which are a tegu think from Central America are established here and they have decimated small snakes

However I LOVE the non natives because in the end it is the development non the non natives which is the true killer of native fauna .

One of the biggest threats to our local wild life is the domestic cat. We’ve been trying to get the council to introduce stronger laws to control them.

I used to watch Steve Irwin and he would often say that but before him there was another Australian wild life show that sadly I do not recall his name but either way one show he went out hunting feral cats , granted going back some years as now no way any network would allow that .

I didn’t know that.

They wouldn’t be stuck in your garden if you collected them and took them to another place!

As they are territorial we wouldn’t be able to take them very far and all the neighbouring gardens are denuded of their food. They used to roam from garden to garden to eat and then come back home to our place.

For me it would be a treat to see such amazing animals in my yard but yes I know destructive but are they destructive to house structure ?

No.They are noisy though.Jumping on and running across the roof in the middle of the night. And the Brushtail does quite a scary growl.

lol yes that is noisy , I value my sleep but unique animals only found there and just like here in USA , nature is being destroyed .

Australia is currently experiencing rapid population growth, which has raised concerns about its ability to keep up with the demands of its rapidly increasing population.

Overall, while Australia is developing, the pace of growth poses challenges that require careful management to ensure sustainable development.
