Is the UK a gullible country?

It seems that the UK ranks badly in terms of resilience to fake news - and is doing nothing about it. This makes the UK one of the most gullible populations in the face of ad hoc and orchestrated fake news.
Worrying?

Why … it doesn’t help by spending too long online reading spurious comments, and falsehoods, sucking it up and believing it all.

Spot on Ripple.
If you tell some folk blue is black often enough they start to believe it.
A bit like believing their own bull s…t.

In my opinion, we’re gullible right from square 1, i.e. when we think that we live in a Democracy.

If we did live in a democracy, we’d be hearing much more from our MPs, after their one and only home visit (for some), at election time, to convince us that they are the right ones for the MP Jobs.

Then we’d be given more knowledge about how any great project (which we must fund) and how that will be managed.

Currently, after the MPs get elected, there is little to no further need, in MP’s opinion, for the blessing of the Public in anything which they do.

In other words, they are going to do it their way.

If, for example, a large & dangerous, project then comes up, you are advised what to vote for but not why & wherefore.

We, laughingly, complain about Foreign Countries and how they don’t get to be Democratic., i.e. people have no real say!

Then we allow our lot to get on with their pet projects and spending without any realisation that we are being treated the same.

Brexit is a true classic example.

The Government, nearly, did something really democratic.

Only after the vote did they find that they had to reverse out of everything in order to get the Country back under their control.

That has not gone well, but, luckily for them, the Civil Service could be relied upon to make sure the project was totally banjaxed!

So, we remain a Country which thinks it is Democratic.

What next?

Another election - it may not go as bad as the Tories fear, the Public may revolt, in time, and spot the trapdoors.

But, don’t hold your breath

Brexiteer or Remainer, you’ve been conned!

You will not be getting what you want.

That’s ok, as long as we keep on getting what we need.

Working in the factory, about every month we would start a rumour that there was going to be a big announcement, the folks loved it. :icon_wink:

Some are gullible and some are not - in fact there is a whole spectrum. You can’t just generalise in that way.

You just need enough gullibles to tip a vote?
