This morning, looking for a coffee, the first two places would not take cash so I went elsewhere.
Last week I went to a coffee shop at 1.50pm on a Friday. The person behind the counter informed me they close at 2pm. I went elsewhere. That place also does not accept cash. I told this to my friend’s wife and she said there are many senior people who no longer go there because they do not take cash.
One place I went to would not serve me a coffee unless I bought a meal.
How can businesses complain when they do not take the money people want to part with?

Could have gone elsewhere and bought a meal, gone back to the coffee shop and told them you just bought a meal and now can I have a coffee?

This happens to me, quite often. I just leave my items at the counter and walk out.

Not long ago the connections went down in my local Sainsbury’s Superstore, so the only sales that went through that day were from cash carrying customers. The Q at the cash machines were indeed long😁

I was in a town called Trangie, at about 2pm I opened the local cafe’s door only to be told that they had completely sold out. it is the only cafe in town, I went to the pub instead.
I always carry cash though I rarely use it, I prefer cashless transactions. With Armagard having to be bailed out then perhaps the Reserve Bank should ban transaction costs on cards and put them on cash instead?
ATMs are becoming few and far between.
When the election is over I might write to my local MP.

I barely carry cash in my wallet anymore, just gotta make sure I’ve got my credit or debit cards.

I believe there will come a day when mass outages the world over will make EFTPOS transactions impossible.

That’s a good point, and here I am, walking around with zero cash most of the time. I just trust my cards way too much. But yeah, if a big outage ever hits, I’ll probably be the one stuck looking at a vending machine, wishing I had a few coins. Maybe I should rethink this.

I always keep some cash in my pocket - the window cleaner, the bin cleaners for example but not a lot else.

I make sure that I’m carrying a pound coin when visiting certain supermarkets. It’s very frustrating to go for a trolley and then remember that you’re coinless!
