Is All This Posturing And Joking, Sensible ln This Serious Situation?

Here we are with a serious and tragic war going on in Ukraine and over at the G7 summit, the leaders are joking and laughing about Putin.
Surely this will only antagonise a very serious situation?
Honestly, they are like little kids in the playground and think it’s a huge joke!

What are your thoughts? Is this the way to handle a very serious situation.
I mean, is it ok for them to joke, they have special underground bunkers to run to if Putin presses the button and exterminates the rest of us!!

We are - as nations - all forced to take sides. No one in their right mind is going to opt for Putin. So rational thinking goes out the window: discussing the situation like grown ups is off limits.

I think rule 1 is reasonable :-

Rule 1: Never show fear to a Bully!

I don’t think Putin would have any regard for those three anyway.

it may make them feel better but I believe with a man like Putin it will only harden him and for world leaders imo unecessary and childlike

however that said Putin may feel rather lonely atm - he has flirted with the west from time to time and seemed to enjoy it? but now is not a good time!!

No, they should grow up and treat him with the gravitas of any world leader. These are dangerous times and ganging up and showing contempt is just likely to strengthen his resolve, make him feel more of an outsider and confirm his belief that we’re a united threat to Russia

That’s the trouble with having some such men as leaders, they think it’s a rugger match and they’ll win by shouting yah, boo, sucks! at the enemy. In the end, it’s always diplomacy that ends wars

And they think they’ll get Brownie points at home for their gung ho tough stance. Johnson especially is using the war in Ukraine as a cover up for his own misdeeds

There’s far too much Biggles and the Hotspur about them for my liking

It can’t be long before one of them starts singing that Putin only has one ball

Putin would like to control the world & I think he believes he could, irrespective of how many lives are lost in the process.
His own people are not allowed to hear what the rest of the world thinks, they are forced to believe his lies.
I don’t think that public joking is a good idea, but I do think that if we show fear he will believe that he can still win & maybe use nuclear weapons or germ warfare to prove his strength…and he proved his ability to do this by attempting to kill an ex spy in Salisbury.
If he wins this war I believe that he will try to take more western countries in the future, so we can only hope that, despite all the joking, these people are discussing more serious actions in private rooms where the press are not able to hear what is said.

Sorry Twink, but how do you know this?
Probably from reports in the western media.
Behind all of the hot air, Putin has marched into a country that was once part of the USSR and now due to western influence (mainly American) he considers it a threat to his own country. He doesn’t have a hope in hell of stacking up against the rest of the world. And may I remind you (right or wrong) that the only country to use nuclear weapons against another country was America.

You say that his own people are not allowed to hear what the rest of the world thinks, but our own media is geared up to make you despise Putin and the Russians to justify their support of Zelensky and the Ukraine. As Maree suggests, the only way to end wars is through negotiation. Has this country learned nothing from the lies about weapons of mass destruction concerning Iraq?

And if Putin wanted to eliminate a spy, do you think he would have done it so all the world suspected it was him? There are many ways to dispose of a spy that would produce less candy for the press. Most obviously a set up to prepare the western world what was to follow.

I think it’s the west that are doing the bullying Ted.
Rest of the world versus Putin…

Foxy I form my own opinions on people by what they say & do & Putin would never be a person I could trust, so what is shown in western media has no influence over my opinion… apart from the photos of destruction of people homes whilst they hide in cellars for weeks.
As for the Russian spy being killed, there were more than one that were poisoned over the time that Putin has been in power and it is highly unlikely that the Russians, who did it, were not sent here to do the job!
I have known a number of business men who frequently traveled to Russia & they told me that the people are only allowed to hear what the government allows them to. In recent years social media has allowed them to hear more but they still get arrested if they object to government decisions though!
I have little respect for USA or their politics , so they don’t influence me, but I do believe that there is little chance of Putin agreeing to fair negotiations with the west, unless he has no other option !

War should be a thing of the past, but it never will be whilst we have big world leaders all wanting things done their own way!

I think the Ukrainians would have said that Russia was a threat to their country and they were right.

All those important and influential big boys around the idiot would not allow that big red button to be pressed. He has no direct access to the launch command and as such we are as safe as we can be with the other idiots at large in the middle east.
