Interested in egyptology?

Several months ago I started thread on how the Great Pyramid of Khufu was built. I asked for input from others and I was pleased to find many who are interested.

Since then, I have read and just completed "The Secret of the Great Pyramid, written by world famous Egyptologist Professor Bob Brier. A man who has dedicated his life to the study of Egyptology.

As many know, there are two competing theories on how the Great pyramid was built. 1.) using a very long ramp , and 2.) using an external ramp that winds around, and around the pyramid.

Bob Brier, disagrees. He and Jean-Pierre Houdin have a completely new and novel theory. At first I was skeptical , but after read Bob Briers book, I now believe their theory is quite possible.

Want to know how ? Well, youā€™ll have to read the book.
I highly recommend this book. Extremely well written and actually thrilling.

What about the third theory Bakerman?
Ancient Aliens :088:

I hope youā€™re fully on the road to recovery

Sorry Minx, no insult intended, but ancient aliens is not a rational idea. It is just a bunch of hog wash.

PS: slowly regaining my strength.

Absolutely couldnā€™t care less, bakerman. :102:

I would love to know - the pyramids have always fascinated me. Will look on Amazon for the book!

I think I can guarantee, youā€™ll be fascinated. The book is full of information. Not only about the Great pyramid but also about the history of pyramid building, from the 1st mastabas to the crowning glory of the Great Pyramid.

Wow - will look forward to that. They were such an advanced culture and had such interesting beliefs.

I am now thinking I may have been too hasty when I said I wasnā€™t interested, bakerman, you are infecting me with your enthusiasm. I may even come to share your passion for ancient Egypt one day, who knows.

Keep up the good work. :023:

Bakerman- itā€™s a pity you canā€™t ā€˜seeā€™ humour in text!
I was pulling your leg
I totally agree with you!

Iā€™m glad youā€™re doing better

Oh, ok. For an American, British humor often goes right over our heads.

:102: Iā€™m not British. But I agree, their humour can be slightly dry at timesā€¦

I would love to hear from anyone who has read, or who will soon be reading ā€œThe Secret of the Great Pyramidā€. Perhaps start a new discussion ?

Now that I have read the book, I wish that I could re-visit the Great Pyramid and spend some more time deep inside it. There are so many details that I just didnā€™t know about during my visit. Most especially, Iā€™d spend more time examining the ā€œrobbers tunnelā€.

I have ordered the book from Amazon, Bakerman, will be here on Saturday.

After you have read it, Iā€™d love to discuss it with you.

Iā€™ll look forward to that!:-D:-D

Bakerman - Amazon have just delivered my book - had a quick look at the many interesting photos/diagrams/maps etc., Now that it is a little cooler I am going to open a bottle of Claret - curl up on the sofa with the cats - and enjoy a good read!:-D:-D

Our humour is self-deprecating, sometimes cruel but by and large we donā€™t take ourselves too seriously, which could appear strange to non-British.

Tabby, I hope you are enjoying the book as much as I did. Looking forward to a discussion.

I really am enjoying it, Bakerman - about half way now. Normally I would have finished it by now - but - this infernal heatwave is stultifying my concentration - so - progressing little and often! The author has such a lovely simple way of writing - everything is completely explained and understandable - it is a joy to read. Had not realised there were quite so many pyramids out there - see - I am learning already!!

Iā€™ve just watched a TV program about Egyptian archaeology which I came across purely by chance and it brought back memories from 1962, when I walked up one of those internal passages in the Great pyramid. I wonder if they still let visitors do that? Iā€™ll look out for that book Bakerman.
At least I got to ride a camel!
