Insurance companies

Just had an almighty row with my camera insurance company./ Renewing the policy and making adjustments you think would be the simpliest of things ? yes? No wrong. Without any notification what so ever they have dropped individual item listing ie cameras/lenses etc into just bulk equipment.
Now there is no way one can cross check that the information they hold is correct or not.
Not only that but failed to notify their customers of this major change in their policy.
To me this is a sloppy way to conduct business maybe because the modern staff are incapable of doing things for customer information.

Insurance companies are like casinos … they always win.

I don’t insure anything but my car which is a legal requirement.

I like to take my chances on my camera getting nicked, my house burning down, my holiday going tits-up. Make me feel better, more alive & in control. Plus it’s saved me fortunes over the last 50 odd years.

(OK I think I must have had home building insurance back when I had a mortgage)

Everything I have goes under the house insurance. The only thing that I have separate insurance for is my dog, because she priceless

I don’t understand why that is a problem. Surely that is better for you because if you lose or damage your camera you just tell them and they pay out (you presumably have proof of purchase). If you change your equipment it is covered automatically (assuming the sum insured covers it)

My house contents insurance doesn’t list every item either just the total amount

update
Apparently this is how they do insuing goods under £2000 in value. I pointed out to them that in theory I could claim for an item I never owned. As for proof of purchase it could have been a present or the company bought from no longer exists so they can’t do a follow up check.
Talk about a company leaving hemselves wide open to fraudsters and scammers is beyond belief.
How it used to be every item was listed with serial number and value , so a company could check to at least see you owned that item

I understood that all records are required to be retained by the Inland revenue for a period of 7 years for their examination, at least we had to including every transaction including personal items not asociated ditrectly with our business but legitimately went through company books
So i am wondering if this and possible others are breaking the law
