Instagram will stop recommending political content

Instagram will stop making suggestions for political accounts that the user does not specifically choose. Instagram is owned by Meta, the umbrella of Facebook. They say that this will roll out on Facebook as well.

By default, going forward Instagram and Threads will not promote political content (unless it’s from accounts users already are following). Both apps will add a setting to let users who still want to see political content recommendations opt to do so — and, according the post, the same control will roll out on Facebook at a later date. Instagram defines “political content” as “potentially related to things like laws, elections or social topics.”

That is interesting. I often have a look at US politics and lately follow some of the commentary about Trump’s many legal cases. In keeping with my own political views I prefer commentary that is centre / left biased such as from groups like the Midas Touch, David Pakman and TYT. Last year I would get their videos pushed to me on Facebook. Then a few months ago they disappeared. Even a search would not come up with anything by the Midas Touch. I thought this was Meta blocking blogs they did not want people to see.

TYT is so left bias, there’s no more room to go any more left.
