Indefinite Immigration Detention Ruled Unconstitutional

The Australian High Court has thrown a spanner in the works for both sides of politics.

The High Court set aside an earlier ruling that indefinite immigration detention was legal, so long as those people were deported as soon as reasonably practicable.

As mentioned above a High Court ruling last week determined dozens of asylum seekers were being held unlawfully.

80 people have since been released following the ruling and are currently installed in the community.

The government is considering legislative options but awaiting the High Court’s reasons

In a state of political panic the Federal Government rushed legislation into Parliament accepting all amendments the opposition made.

The federal government is proposing the use of ankle bracelets and curfews to monitor 84 people released from immigration detention last week, in emergency legislation rushed into Federal Parliament.

Ankle bracelets and curfews are being proposed as new measures to monitor people released from immigration detention.
