Has Adele been making phone calls to Radio 2?
Day 14
With Charlene’s exit providing the campers with food for thought, the day started off somberly but the producers provided a lightweight BTT to distract the celebs - “Partners in Grime”. Paired-off campers were asked questions about each other - they were giver two chances each and, unsurprisingly, they won a “full house” of stars (10) …
Deals on Wheels gave Matt and Owen a chance to win cheese - they completed a series of maze and ball challenges successfully but, yet again, the campers answered the question (on Owen and Hollyoaks) incorrectly … what a bunch of duffers …
There was then some (seemingly sympathetic) discussion about Matt but I didn’t want to vomit so I skipped that …
Speaking of bunches, Seann and George were having a conversation on the balcony as they watched the other campers playing “What’s the Time Mr Wolf” around the fire - Seann, who doesn’t like dispute and confrontation, was enjoying the “spectacle” as people “got along” but George was derisory, calling them “The Brady Bunch” for hiding their real selves behind a veneer of “love”.
Which brings us to supper - Wallaby Bum (and lots of it) …
Matt was on kitchen duty and (hopefully having washed his hands) took charge of the dismemberment, much to the chagrin of Scarlette (also on kitchen duty), who was told to get rid of the scraps.
The meal was duly served, with plenty for everyone but Owen noted that Matt took TWO bones, one of which was Scarlette’s - of course, Matt returned it but once again, the underlying sense of privilege and right that he possesses asserted itself.
As George said, some are hiding their real selves while in camp - we should not forget:
The ruling came after two women took Public Health England and the health secretary, then Matt Hancock, to court.
When Covid hit in early 2020, patients were rapidly discharged into care homes without testing, despite the risk of asymptomatic transmission, with government documents showing there was no requirement for this until mid-April.
In their judgement, Lord Justice Bean and Mr Justice Garnham found the decisions of the then health secretary (Matt Hancock) to make and maintain a series of policies contained in documents issued on 17 and 19 March and 2 April 2020 were unlawful.
They ruled this was on the grounds the drafters of those documents failed to take into account the risk to elderly and vulnerable residents from non-symptomatic transmission, which had been highlighted by Sir Patrick Vallance in a radio interview as early as 13 March.
Jason Coppel QC also said in a written case outline for the judicial review that the care home population was known to be “uniquely vulnerable” to Covid.
“The government’s failure to protect it, and positive steps taken by the government which introduced Covid-19 infection into care homes, represent one of the most egregious and devastating policy failures in the modern era,” he added.
Matt Hancock’s policies and actions (or lack of) were responsible for 28,186 “excess deaths” recorded in care homes in England between 2 March and 12 June in 2020.
Missed yesterday’s episode. Thanks for the summary.
So why did she take the job as Deputy to Hancock?
Probably because she like the idea of privilege and authority more than “journalistic integrity” …
Does that explain her atrocious cowardice in the one trial she had to do?
No … and her abject failure followed her conceited posturing before the trial - George , OTOH, admitted anxiety and performed well.
Charlene was amazing on the plank walk , so strong and brave , I could not have done it , but she was scared of the fish snakes and whatever in the tank .
Funny how she was so brave on the plank I think that was worse
Indeed … Charlene does seem to have conflicting sides to her character …
Next elimination odds:
- Sue Cleaver 4/11
- Scarlette Douglas 5/2
- Matt Hancock 7/1
- Babatunde Aleshe 7/1
- Boy George 12/1
- Chris Moyles 12/1
- Seann Walsh 20/1
- Mike Tindall 80/1
- Jill Scott 100/1
- Owen Warner 100/1
I’d rather Baba went before Sue or Scarlette … but heigh-ho …
When I observed Charlene’s actions and conversations within the camp, I thought she had a highly developed sense of self-importance.
I thought the way she took over the camp cooking and bossed everyone around was because she thought she knew better than them and the way she took it upon herself to grill Hancock at the earliest opportunity was another example of her self-important manner.
It was even more obvious during her exit interview - oh, please! She tried to make her decisions and choices sound so high falluting and grand!
if she was so worried about “jeopardising her integrity”, she could have turned down the Jungle job - she must have realised there would be some contentious characters in there because there always is - nobody forced her to take part.
Self-important indeed …
Not a very nice person …
Mike Tindall was accused of cheating in the Partners in Grime challenge during Saturday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! as he claimed his rugby career nickname was Magic Mike rather than The Fridge.
The Mrs and Mrs-style game saw the campmates team up in pairs, with sportsman Mike, 44, being matched with Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver, 59.
Sue was tasked with guessing Mike’s nickname during the quiz - with the soap star naming him as Magic Mike - which Mike went on to confirm as correct.
However, Mike was frequently known as The Fridge during his rugby career due to his physical bulk, with Magic Mike being the moniker he’s been given during his time in the camp due to his fearlessness when moving creepy-crawlies out of the way for his co-stars.
That’s the second incident of “cheating” for Mike - obviously, he doesn’t treat the “game” seriously …
Yep. If she was that concerned, she could have left at any time.
Apart from that, why wasn’t she willing to maintain a similar level of journalistic integrity and professional distance from the other celebrities? After all, they’re all in the public eye too.
I’ve just reviewed the episode where Charlene becomes deputy.
If you recall, Matt and Mike have been voted for Leader by viewers. In turn they select their deputies - Matt selects Charlene and she’s absolutely delighted. The four of them then take part in a “blindfold” game to decide whether Matt or Mike is the Leader - again, Charlene is delighted to take part. Prior to supper, Charlene is lying on her bed, complaining about not being able to “help”.
At no point does Charlene express disquiet about her “promotion”.
Only when she sees the spider does she “change her mind” - presumably because she’s taken a few hours to “imagine” the ramifications of “sleeping with the enemy” …
On the plus side, at least the spider didn’t have to sleep with her.
If you recall, it (or one like it) came looking for her the next day and crawled all over her bed …
None of the campers dared tell her …
Obviously those creatures that like to spin a tangled web are attracted to each other after all.
Day 15
Sue had a “breakdown” in the RV but a chat and cuddle with Mike soon cheered her up …
The BTT - Speakuneasy
The campers themselves voted for the participants - Mike and Jill …
Obviously, it was a drinking trial … 5 preparations each …
Mike - Cockroaches, Vomit Fruit, Duck’s Tongue, Pigs Penis with Sheeps Vagina/Pigs Uterus Cocktail … even Mike’s stomach had trouble with that lot and he didn’t look (or feel) happy at the end …
Jill - Spiders, Fish Eyes, Goats Testicle, Cow’s Anus with a Beancurd/Snail Cocktail … Jill started suffering half way through but kept going …
10 stars won …
Letters from Home
These had to be won by the campers completing a block-balancing exercise - Chris, George, Sue failed, Matt, Baba, Mike and Sean balanced 2 leaving Jill, Scarlett and Owen a monumental task but they responded and balanced the full set to acquire letters for everyone …
Supper
Silkie - black chicken meat
There seemed to be too little - Matt ended up scraping the pot (is he naturally greedy?)
The letters were brought in - I skipped that section.
Exit:
Scarlette … predictable but still sad … she rarely put a foot wrong - she was enthusiastic, cheerful and helpful without being domineering … my favourite …
While other campers wanted to leave, Scarlette had wanted to stay on so she was disappointed but “happily” watched her best bits … there were lots of her “joining in” …
She chose her “brother” Baba to win but I think that he’ll be next out … and he did look shaken by Scarlette’s departure.
I was sorry to see Scarlette leave, she was sensible and quite inoffensive.
But then I also like Charlene , she’s the regular 6 o’clock news reader on ITV and has always seemed fair and compassionate.
We wanted Moyles to be kicked out.
