most people go for the social side
I would have been a lawyer in criminal cases, had I gone to college instead of marrying so young. I like untangling clues, figuring out the why of crimes, sorting evidence…which is why my last career choice was working for the NY State Police before retiring.
All I wanted to be was a Bricklayer. I don’t know why.
I took an apprenticeship as a Joiner as I could not find a bricklaying apprenticeship & then transferred to Bricklaying a short while later.
After my apprenticeship I worked in civvie Engineering & did some high access work, door work in night clubs etc & seasonal head bar man in a large beachside pub. And after meeting someone who was a mental health Nurse, I applied to do that. But I took a job in a children’s home, together with a fully funded degree in Social work instead. I also around that time worked as a hypnotist & in sexual health outreach. I then left that to go Bus Driving & then that to go HGV driving. And then worked freelance doing everything from chauffeuring, to moving high security loads, to trade plating, to repossessing lease vehicles etc etc.
I have have also worked in a Bingo club, with special needs children. As a environmental officer on a farm (an E funded post.) I have driven coaches, open top tour buses & worked as a motorcycle dispatch rider & several other things.
So I think I have done most of the things I want too.
From about the age of 12 I always wanted to work in a laboratory or drawing office. My technical drawing skills never came to much so being a draughtsman was out. Other than 3 years on the road as a technical sales engineer I’ve always worked in either a laboratory or industrial engineering role.
A Photographer hands down!
I’d have no idea whatsoever and am glad that I don’t have to make any such choice.
I really wanted to be a nurse but my Dad told me I would never stick at it because of having to work unsocial hours, nights etc. He also told me I would be clearing up vomit and wiping bums. He did his very best to put me off even though a much older family friend who was very high up in Nursing said she would take me under her wing. I never liked to go against my Dad so I went into secretarial work and then into teaching. Looking back I was pathetic really and should have stuck to my guns but I was never one to upset the applecart.
I had ambitions of being a chef - even did a year at night school but, alas, couldn’t cope with skinning, plucking, drawing, and gutting the creatures we had to cook!
Did win a prize though - a lethally sharp Sabatier knife - still in constant use!
Being a Careers advisor might have been fun.
I think I would have made a great exotic dancer.
Bit of a night owl so the hours would suit.
Always loved to dance and am bloody good at it
plus, the pay is fantastic
It would have been good to be your Agent.
You’ll get 5% tops
That’ll do nicely.
Haha, joke is on you…sadly I think my stage days would be well and truly over…what does 5% of bugger all add up to?
I happen to enjoy being fed a song and dance
Now why do you think I’m dancing? Clearly, you haven’t heard me sing…
As for a feed, that’s PM material lol
