Missy as someone else has said the wound is best kept open to drain and to facilitate healing .
The best thing is an 'Elizabethan’cone collar if necessary but usually it’s not .
Hope all goes well today,
I hope all goes well today Jazzi, I’m sure little Holly will be just fine.
Good luck jazzi and holly, baby grows a good idea, we put a small child’s tshirt on Elsie with holes for back legs cut in the front of it.
I imagined you would and it’s wrong .
Wounds should not be covered but left to drain .
In the many dogs from humane societies I have had neutered I have never seen any with baby grows or other nonsense .
If a dog wants to remove a t shirt or shorts it will .
As your dog obviously did t it shows it was clearly unnecessary.
That doesn’t cover the wound if it had we wouldn’t have used it, when they say don’t cover it they mean don’t bandage it not don’t put a loose garment to keep the area clean when you walk them. I’d add btw my vet was happy with it as we had told him about it before we did it. All dogs are different Elsie was first we felt we needed to protect all the others we could carry over puddles etc but she was too big for me to lift.
The alternative was possibly a dirty wound as we had such bad rain and mud at the time she was done actually much like weather now.
Your personal sneering was completely unnecessary.
its no wonder the vets in this country are all rich .
Good luck today Jazzi with Holly, she will be fine probably sleepy for the day.
Why ? I assume that was about my post if not ignore the question. Btw ours charges for an operation that includes two appointments prior, one to draw blood and one to talk you through the procedure allowing you to view where the recovery room is etc, and two after op appointments where they cheek the wound on day two and then remove stitches on last one.
That came in at £230 for Elsie and £290 for Betty apparently size matters in the vetinary world, smaller cost more.
But I thought that was reasonable for his skills and to pay his lovely staff. Certainly a lot of money but well worth it.
I was told the incision would be about 2” long, if that, and internal stitches. Apparently the outside wound would be just a scab, so let’s see when she’s done how best to proceed.
Thank you for her good luck and get well wishes. They are much appreciated. Xxx
Give her a cuddle from me to Jazzi.
One thing that worries me about that, is the prickly ends of the stitches that stick out ‘catch’ in the material which would send her crazy.
Best to let the air get to it if possible.
Good luck.
I hope all goes well for both you and Holly…but I suspect you will be worse than her.
Just phoned, and was told out of surgery and recovering, to collect about 3. They assured me they would call me when done, but it seems not, I had to call them.
Will not have lunch. Carpets a long way off drying, so can allow at least hour and hour with windows open and a heater on.
Good news that she can come home, Jazzi, obviously it all went well. Give her a gentle hug from me - and find a big treat for yourself!!
As I said we used a t shirt had no problems at all it just kept the wound clean when we were out and about. Her stitches were more internal just one I think it was outside. They do it by keyhole surgery these days.
Fabulous news she’ll probably still be a bit wobbly mind always are when they come home. Tiny meal for her this evening and lots of cuddles. Then tomorrow the fun begins keeping a young lady quiet and calm no jumping around that’s a real challenge.
I meant now having lunch, not not, lol.
Yes Julie, I am not looking forward to that. I plan on staying in for the next few days, and hopefully have enough shopping in, and food for her. Carpets all now cleaned and freshened up, rubbish done, so should only need to step out of the door for her toilets, but try telling her that!!
Thanks everyone. X
Glad Holly is coming home soon Jazzi.
Any news of Holly yet?
