I was not quick enough

With my new car I finally got around to putting my street directory and country town directories in the car. Almost.
I placed the books on the roof whilst I sorted other stuff.
As I drove out my driveway I heard an unfamiliar thump. Not discerning a problem I continued driving.
As I go around the corner one of the books I left on the roof slides down my windscreen.
Getting out of the car I notice of the two books there is only one left.
That must have been the noise I heard, the book falling off onto the road.
So I walk back to where I heard the noise, no more than 50 metres, I spot a guy getting into his car somewhere near where the book would have fallen.
I looked all over for for book, nowhere to be found. I surmised the the bloke saw the book and took it as his own.
From the time the the second book slid down the windscreen to when I walked to the spot definitely no more than 45 seconds had passed.
Still not quick enough.

Congrats on the new car, Bretrick. Isn’t there a navi system in your car since you say it’s a new one? Do you have an idea why anyone might take your book? What is the value?

While jogging, I once lost my mobile and returned to the spot a short while after. A bunch of girls had just picked it up and was reading my Whatsapp chats allegedly trying to find out who the owner was. When I said the phone was mine they asked me test questions to check that and finally handed it back to me. Since then I’ve had a note on my phone with the landline number to contact me. And I use the fingerprint sensor.

Husband has taken up the Hobby of Flying well trying to Fly Model Planes…His first one now purchased we took off to Bexhill on Sea Cliffs…We had seen a few brave enthusiasts flying planes from the edge of the Cliffs in the direction of the Sea…
Not that he was even able to take off a model craft at this stage but there was a huge green there before any buildings so was a good place to Practice…the idea was also really hoping for some help from one of the regulars…
He chatted to this helpful Young man and the man was really eager to help my Husband…Turned out he also flew real Planes as he was a Pilot in the Air Force…
Extremely friendly and so helpful he showed Hubs some basic stuff,
His New Virgin Plane was in the Air the wind when it suddenly whipped up and that’s just what can happen by the Sea… the Model Plane for whatever reason took off and the YM went a tad White!.Disbelieving the situation, he ran up the hill in the direction of the Plane as he could not Control it…It had soon Disappeared…we spend hours and hours looking for where we last saw it and try to Gauge where it might have landed…Long Story Short…it was never ever seen or heard of again! No debris either and even the Railway staff that turned out could not believe how fast it had disappeared…they inspected all the railway lines for it but Nothing was found there either…

New to me, 2 years old. No built in navigation.
The street directory would have been lying on the ground with no one around. He simply would have thought, someone has lost it, might as well claim it.

Don’t mention cars, mine isn’t even a year old yet and I’ve already had….
a nail in the tyre when it was ten days old, fortunately it was repairable
I drove too far into my garage and marked the paintwork
someone at work caught my car whilst parking and damaged the paintwork , but they are paying for the repair
then, to cap it all I caught one of the alloys on the kerb at work and marked that, I must add that we are having major work done at the care home where I work, including the car park which is unfinished and has massively high kerbs and isn’t easy to manoeuvre out of ( because it’s basically a building site)
not to mention the numerous near misses I’ve had because of the idiots driving on our roads…
