I ventured into the Aussie bush today and was delighted with a couple of beauties

In my 62 years I have never seen a Spotted Pardalote. The moment I walked into the bush, there on the ground was this beauty.
I knew instantly what it was because the small spots stood out, saying “look at me”

Made my day. Just seeing this bird for the first time really pleased me. To get a couple of photos was a bonus.

I walked further into the bush and could hear a Parrot chattering. I wondered what parrot it would be.
Suddenly a bird flew from the ground onto a tree branch less than 20 metres from me. Oh glory be, a Western Rosella Parrot was before my eyes.
These stunners live only in South West Western Australia.

A little while later I almost trod on this young Blue Tongue Lizard sunning itself. It had flattened it’s body to expose more of itself for the sun to heat.

The lizard is a young one. Rather small.

I really like the Blue Tongue Lizard Bretrick. I couldn’t resist a quick Google to see if they are dangerous in anyway. It seems that they worst that they can do is inflict a painful bite…ouch!

They are surprisingly well camouflaged as well. Quite a few times I have almost stepped on them. Not seeing them in the leaf litter.

I got the species wrong in regards the Spotted Pardalote. It is a Red-Eared Firetail.

Wow, he doesn’t look very friendly! :astonished:

When disturbed or feeling threatened they will poke out the tongue from a wide gaping mouth. :grinning:
