I have been watching Shakespeare's plays lately

Last night I watched The Tempest - a line from the play; as leaky as an unstanched wench ((look that one up for yourself)
A couple of days ago I watched Twelfth Night - this word was used - Consanguineous (Of the same lineage or origin; having a common ancestor.)

When I was at school I enjoyed Shakespeare’s plays very much, in English lit we often went on trips to see his plays performed.

These days they bore the pants of me.

Mind you they reckon every story is just a rewrite of Romeo and Juliet or The Taming of the Shrew

I do not remember Shakespeare at school.
Though no doubt he was in the curriculum.
I have found all those that I have watched as an adult to be very interesting.
If only as a study of past societies.

We did him in school.Couldn’t get on with him at all.Seen lots of his plays since.I think he has to be watched not read.Macbeth is my favourite.

NB He is credited with inventing un.
You add it to a word to make it mean something opposite.

Try this one for size, cheery stuff!

There was a cracking British horror/comedy film released during the early 70’s based on Shakespeare’s plays.
One of the best films of it’s type ever in my opinion, what a fabulous cast too! :uk:

You’d never touch a Greggs poodle pie again after watching this one…

Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet is definitely worth a watch, sumptuously filmed!

I watched it on DVD with my son when he was studying Romeo and Juliet at school.

There was a time when I had to read him and a time when I did because I wanted to. Also watched several theatre performances and films such as Franco Zeffirelli’s mentioned by @Chilli which I liked.
Both forms lost me, though, with their new interpretations of his plays in order “to get the youth” which often meant that performances were full of sexual innuendos and obscenities which, so it turned out, failed to attract younger visitors nonetheless and put off the elder ones. What did they gain? When being in the right mood, I enjoy more classic interpretations without too much horseplay and slapstick interludes.

Yep, I studied that one too, I remember when our English teacher took us to see the film, loved it! We were taken to see all three film versions of the plays we studied, including Macbeth and Hamlet. Brilliant Laurence Olivier playing Hamlet!
