Can find no reference for it anywhere though it closely resembles Ganoderma lucidum.
The problem with that is that Ganoderma is native to North America
Hi
Love it, an amazing find.
I can find no image anywhere on line that is comparable to this “Fried Egg” mushroom.
Is that the top or the underneath ?
Yes, it’s a bracket fungus isn’t it. We have the beefsteak fungus here in the UK which is edible…
I doesn’t taste anything like beef, supposedly rather bitter although I’ve never tried it.
I’d rather eat the tree
Or you could just hug it like most people Spitty
And all the world is biscuit shaped
It’s just for me to feed my face
And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste
That is the top.
No idea what it is. I can not find a similar picture on the net, at all.
It’s probably as safe eating that as the stuff they sell in supermarkets now.
I’d rather eat the tree too…yuck.
Aha. I think you’ve found the perfect compromise for those who believe the earth is a sphere (well, ish) , and flat earthers. The earth is Oreo shaped.
Who cares Dex, there ain’t no bucket list.
Not since the “Reach and Wash”
I received a reply from fungimap.org.au
I believe that your fungus is the polypore Trametes coccinea (Southern Cinnabar polypore).
I have seen specimens with a white area around where it initially emerges from the dead wood it lives on but I can’t say why it happens.
Maybe ageing. I have also seen white stripes on the top surface as well.
I have searched all the online pictures, none match my stunning “Fried Egg” mushie.
Bret, are you tempted to “Pick It”?
No, I would never pick any Mushrooms. Leave them be.
As I let these ones be.
I found these one at Goblin Swamp, Carey Brook, Hawke National Park.
They are beautiful … almost natural works of art.
Puffball mushrooms are weird things … until you tread on one yourself you wouldn’t believe the gigantic cloud of spores that waft up and engulf you.
As nobody else has bothered, I suppose I’ll have to do the honours….
They’re fungi’s to be with, and don’t take up mushroom.
To my shame, I admit … I had to think about that.
