I have been pondering over the leaves of your plant, which look like they are in sets of five?

The only other thing I can think of is a baby Horse Chesnut tree. These have the 5 leaves, although that still doesn’t look quite right.
The pointed looking bud still looks like the Rhode family to me.

I don’t think it is a Horse Chestnut as the leaves are quite small.
The buds on my plant are more round than pointed.

It might be worth trying the Flora Incognita phone app. A friend showed me it last night and it works quite well. You open the app, take a pic of the plant and it goes through a database of 4,500+ plants and shrubs.

I tried it at my volunteer work place where I was sorting out a greenhouse and a small patch of garden. There were 5 or 6 grey plants growing (no flowers but there was a sort of bud unfurling) and I could tell they weren’t weeds but no-one knew what they were. The app recognised them as poppies.

I’ve pondered for a couple of days over this and I think it is a variety of ranunculus Artangel. (A member of the buttercup family). There’s about 500 varieties and yours could be a wild one or a cultivar. Some of the cultivars are very brightly coloured.

The flower bud is quite small, as are the leaves. My iPad pics seem to make everything look bigger, or maybe l take them too close up!

I’ve been hunting for pictures of the leaves, but I can’t seem to post them Artangel. Once the flower is out you should know for sure. Hope it is a cultivar.

I can’t believe this, the flower has now come out! l only took the last pic of the closed bud, about 2 hours ago.
The ? drone landed on it as l was taking the pic!
