Hi Bruce
Not an option here in the UK, they are not covered by Insurance.
Hi
At last some progress.
I am being moved out a fortnight on Monday, to a care home, for at least nine weeks to allow for the works to be done to the house.
I really seriously do not want to be going there.
It is my idea of a nightmare, a communal lounge, watching Soap Operas, playing Bingo and having a sing along before bedtime.
Internet access is very slow and limited to their approved sites.
I have less rights than an illegal immigrant or someone charged with murder.
Welcome to today’s UK System
That surprises me but you can always use your phone as a hotspot.
It is good that something is happening.
Hope it works out for you Swimmy, you never know who you will meet and perhaps enjoy their company. Mrs Fox spent most of her life working life in nursing and residential homes and there were some very interesting people in them. I got to know quite a few engineers and even scientists. Some of them didn’t want to be there either.
Swimmy, I will be sending along wonderful hugs for you to keep in a basket next to your chair. Please use them as needed, and let me know when your supply is running low.
Note: My hugs may have to push OGF hugs aside to get to you, but my hugs will hold on tight!![]()
As ever Swimmy I admire your strength of character and resolve!
No hugs from me, just respect!
And me ![]()
For what it’s worth we use our wash at 40C. We also use a clothes line to save that too. But then I’m a grumpy tight old Scotsman…
Hi
An update, quite an important one.
I am now in the Home, single room, brilliant staff, but food etc most definaitely not as avertised.
However I am coping and the work on my house is well underway
Whilst the workers on site are brilliant according to my helpers who are there watering the conservatory and garden, the company doing the repairs are not.
More on that later.
There is one huge issue you should be aware of.
I am insured with Sky, they act as agents for a large Insurance Company.
They have recently changed that Company from Zurich to Aegis.
My house Insurance is due for Renewal on 15th August.
They have informed me that they are refusing me Insurance due to my claim.
This is in spite of the fact that my claim is a no fault claim and Sky are recovering the costs from Dunelm who sold a faulty appliance.
This may well be costing me thousands in trying to get home and contents insurance due to no fault of my own,
I think it’s about time some good luck came your way.SF.
It’s lucky you are a tough resilient Yorkshireman ![]()
Sorry to hear that Swimmy, it sounds like you need a good solicitor, one of those ‘No win No fee’ outfits. There must be something you can do to get some satisfaction. Failing that, we’ll send some of the Over 50’s boys round to sort em’ out…Well, I say ‘boys’… ![]()

Have you had a look in line for Insurance suggestions? I had a quick look with “best house and contents insurance” and there are pages of them in the UK.
Of course they might have skin in the game but as long as you are aware of that you should find someone better.
Hi
Thanks for that Bruce.
Loads advertised, but very few will even look at a renewal for someone who has been refused renewal.
The prices are horrendous, even for a No Fault Claim.
I have had to instruct my Loss Adjusters to add the cost of renewal to the Claim.
Hi
I have a planned return to my house two weeks today.
It is all dependant on the date the carpets are fitted, only then can the furniture and fittings not destroyed be brought out of storage and reconnected.
The window blinds, , curtains and rails will be fitted later.
There is a lead in time for them to be made and installed.
I am told that I need a Care Plan to go home or else I will have to go into a home.
This would involve selling my house and no inheritance for my Son other than a miserly £23,800.
Care Home costs are horrendous, they would also take my monthly pension after tax of slightly over £4,000 being taken, leaving me with a very small amount per week to buy things.
I am a Yorkshireman with a terminal heart condition, and losing this sort of money would be enough to kill me.
Social Services have to approve my return home.
I absolutely loath my local Social Services.
I have not been wasting my time the weeks I have been in here and hospital and have now got a Plan.
I know qualified Care Assistants who are in a terrible house share, they are allowed to dispense controlled drugs.
The one looking after me here works permanent nights, her friend who is married works permanent days.
Her husband is a butcher at the huge ABP Meat Packing Plant in Ellesmere.
All 3 have permanent leave to remain in the UK.
They are having a double bedroom each, all bills paid as a shared house.
I will live downstairs as I have been doing, in the Hospital bed.
I am permitted to earn £7k a year Tax Free under the Governments Rent a Room Scheme.
Between them they are paying £550 a month rent.
They are providing me with Care as a favour.
All my 3 existing Carers are staying one, one just does the gardening, polytunnnel and conservatory, one gets my cash and shopping, the other one wants to reduce her hours, and these are being up by someone else I met here.
A very nice lady who brings her dogs into homes to cheer residents and patients up.
She qualified as a Nurse in Glasgow, then joined the police, becoming a Sergeant, met her now husband who is 15 years older and then moved to the Police in London.
He retired, qualified as a Solicitor, and they moved to Shrewsbury…
We have all got on initially, I hope it all works out.
Sounds an excellent solution Swims … but I’m confused.
Who pays the wages of the 3 who shall be moving in with you or is more a matter they keep their existing jobs and the Social Services will be happy that you do not live alone.
I bet you can’t wait to get back. It seems ages ago that you had to leave.
A least Swimmy you will be staying well away from horses that can’t be ridden from now on, heated or not

Sounds like a good plan. ![]()
You are certainly meeting some interesting people anyway. ![]()
Hi Morti
They keep their own jobs, they are just moving house.
Social Services are never happy unless they are spending other peoples money to do things their way.
Nothing they can do as there is someone qualified at the house to provide Care.
The husband who works at ABP, gets meat at very low prices as an employee.
The house looks brand new, they ended up redecorating the entire house and stripping the whole of the tiling in the bathroom, which had expensive but out of date tiling.
It now has new large, non fussy large marble effect porcelain tiles…
We will have to see how it all works out, my plans have a habit of going wrong.
I will get Shiv to put some photos up before I move back in.
Good news SF I bet you are happy about that.
