I am not even a member of facebook but I have been blocked

I sometimes look at facebook as I am directed there because of an enquiry I made via Google search engine.
When I wanted to look at a business today this was the message I received.
You’re temporarily blocked .
It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.

Wow, is that a thing? “Going too fast”? I look at it maybe once every 3 weeks.
I can not get much information anyway, only a small protion of the first page.
Oh well, no sleep for me tonight, this has rocked me to my core.

Facebook won’t let go! I made the mistake of joining about 15 years ago, then I tried to close my account … with no luck. I’ve been getting messages ever since saying I’m missing out on the action.

About 15 years ago I decided to join facebook. Went through all the preliminaries, inputted so much detail.
Came to the final step and a message popped up; Before you click “join” this is what will happen if you decide to join. Listed were at least 10 items, such as, (paraphrasing) every one will know what you are doing, you will be tracked indeffinitely, it went on and on.
To be honest, it freaked me out so bad I deleted everything and never joined. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ha Ha, just about the same thing happened to me. I joined about 8 years ago and followed one of my friends…I was getting mail from all of his friends, who are plenty! I was spending all day replying to messages so I gave it up as a bad job and ended my membership. The odd occasion that I’m directed there they ask me to sign in and ask for my password… :017:
I’ve got no idea what my password was (I’ve slept a lot since then) and I wouldn’t want to sign in anyway. But it just goes to show, that once you are a member you can never leave… :009:

I don’t know about Facebook but page content blockages can often be overcome by switching off JavaScript. It’s possible to get bowser extensions for toggling JavaScript on or off. The main drawback, having turned it off, is remembering to turn it back on again for normal page loading. Search: ‘Toggle JavaScript’ in browser extensions.

Exactly Foxy, which is somewhat creepy!
I did try to set up a new account recently, purely to follow some local indie bands. Facebook took exception to my surname because in someway it was unlikely to be valid and in someway also bordering on the offensive , tossers!!!
Gawd bless AI! :rage:

Go to your Facebook account.
Click on settings in upper right hand corner
Accounts center choose FB (you may have instagram, etc)
Choose what to do if you pass away (who can close your account)
or’
Delete and close your account

It’s a lot to do, but yes, you can close your account. Another option is to temporarily choose to deactivate the account. I know several who have taken a break from FB in this way. You can leave it deactivated for years.

Here is a link to help you. https://www.facebook.com/help/250563911970368

Sound advice Pam and thank you!
But can we totally wipe out a Facebook account? Somehow I doubt it!

you could remove all content from your account so it is just blank pages.

That’s akin to getting turned away from hell :fire:.

I’d thank my lucky stars if I were you :innocent:.

That ‘turning off JavaScript’ method mentioned earlier in the thread doesn’t work with blocked Facebook page content (it does with other sites that block though).

A while ago, I wanted to see if pupils from my infants and junior schools had made old bones. Links to the school lead to Facebook pages where I could read the contents without being a member. This doesn’t work now, JavaScript disabled or not. I suppose Facebook has undergone updates.

Before this was the case, I did find out the girl across the road from me, who I was friends with in very early years, has made it to old age. Good to know.

I’ve been a member of FB for many years, my family is scattered all over the world, and we keep in touch through the Site. I’ve never had a jot of bother with the site until a couple of months ago. It seems they are testing out AI and belive me it’s causing havoc, it objects to so much and everyone is complaining. I posted a photo of 4 newborn Clydesdale Foals, the AI removed it, I got a message telling me I had only posted it to get likes, WTH??? I posted it as my niece loves horses as much as I do, and I knew it would please her. Also sometimes I share a post from another friend and that gets removed and I get a warning from AI. Seems like I’m not the only one either, lots of people complaining about it.
