Huw Edwards' wife names him as BBC presenter at centre of scandal

No you’re not alone , I feel sorry for Huw and his family .
Especially his wife who has to put on a brave face and keep going All these online armchair judges who have never met the man have found him guilty .

It’s horrible it’s disgusting.

It’s horrible and disgusting that a man in his sixties , a father of five children, would pay large sums of money to a teenager for sexual gratification.
Why would anyone have sympathy for him, any sympathy should go to his innocent family who will be affected by his shame.

I suppose you know him, I suppose you were there as you’ve already judged him and found him guilty. I find that distasteful.

Have you taken into consideration his mental illness. Mental illness can have terrible consequences changing a persons personality I find that awful terrible .
innocent until proven guilty.

He may well be guilty …but save your breath to cool your porridge.

With that I’m going out

What’s bonkers here is to spend £1000s on some photo’s which possibly were ultimately (possibly) funded by earnings from the TV licence fee coffers.

I feel very sorry for him too . He is accused of “ playing the mental health card “ well some people are genuinely mentally ill and do things the would never do normally .

It came out on the News last night that he’s had Mental Health Issues for 20 years and it’s well documented. Yes I also feel sorry for him, Yes he’s been and done something really stupid but, there’s no need for the public to act as if he’s Jack the Ripper. People are so blooming nasty, so quick to judge, all I can say is you never know what’s around the corner, it could be yourself or someone in your family who’s next in the firing line. So think on.

I don’t think that the mental health card is being played. He has a history of severe depression. He has been admitted to a mental health unit clearly having had a breakdown and his wife has informed the press so that they are left alone. Severe depression is a very serious illness. Not just because of suicide risk but also because it can be just as serious as a physical illness if it results in psychosis, catatonia complete withdrawal.

I can understand why they might want to publicise paedophiles but these morality smear campaigns the media are recently so fond of are just a waste of time and ruin lives with no benefit to the public. If someone is above the age of consent I really don’t see the point of telling us about their sex life. Bullying allegations also seem to be in vogue and are completely irrelevant to the general public. In the meantime serious news that should be in the headlines is out of fashion.

Just saw this gem on social media

Why has he still got a job ?

Why should he lose his job ?

I’m shocked just heard . They say he has serious mental health and is having treatment. His wife outed him

Well, buying dodgy photos isn’t exactly a reference and if it’s true he behaved like a bit of a sleeze.

And I don’t know why they cost so much, was there a bit of hush money payment going on?

But he earns his salary fair and square and it’s his to spend as he sees fit, I suppose, as long as he takes responsibility for his actions and accepts the consequences

It’s not as if he nicked money from the TV licence fee coffers? He paid from his own money, presumably from his earnings and he does a lot of jobs and gigs outside the BBC

In fact, this article says he made £37500 from work outside the BBC in the first quarter of 2022

I have no way of knowing that, that is why (Possibly) was added.

I really don’t see how this is anyone’s business but his.

If this was a right wing presenter he would have been hung out to dry.

Another has been comedian

Hi

It would seem that this is going to run and run.

There may have been no criminality, however many will not be happy with his actions and the BBC will understandably not wish to be seen to be condoning his actions.

I genuinely feel sorry for anyone with severe depression, and yes I do believe that it can cause personality changes.

Hounding him and his family is not going to solve anything, it will make things worse.

My view is that they should be left alone and hope that his treatment is successful.

I do not believe that he should be allowed to return to work until he has been treated successfully, to do so would condone what he has done.

I agree with your summary.
But wasn’t this story put out by the Sun? One of Murdoch’s papers. And the Murdoch family hate the BBC. They want it destroyed so that they can launch more privately owned TV channels in the UK. They frequently promote anti-BBC stories and commentary through their newspapers. This sort of story is perfect for the Sun - pretend offence & outrage, salacious content, famous person and the BBC at the centre.

Hi

I am not a great fan of the Sun and many other Newspapers.

They are all in a battle for Income, and publish things which will generate them Income.

In this instance what they published was a statement of facts, which, to my mind , was in the public interest.

My views on this are very simple.

Elderly men should not be paying those decades younger than them for sex, either in reality or online.

I find this weird and just plain wrong.

I am 71 and seriously fancy ladies who are over 60.

I appreciate beauty, but that is all.

Lines on the face are fun, It is a life well spent.

I much prefer older ladies, I am not attracted to men at all.

I’m not interested in your morality of young & old, gay or straight. That is for you and you only.
I am interested in what makes you think it was in the public interest. Why exactly? If the presenter had gone to his grave with no-one knowing about these events would it make a blind bit of difference to anyone? If he was reading the news two months ago did you wonder what gave Huw his kicks? I doubt it.
