So I came across a new term the other day. A fabulous pass-time if you have the opportunity on a lazy Sunday morning or day off. Apparently the Scottish term for this relaxing activity of lounging about in bed in the morning is to “hurkle-durkle” and its enemy is British Summertime when the clocks “Spring” forward. There is even a song paying homage to this luxurious indulgence.
I’m an avid Hurkle Durkler and have been for years, funny how my non Hurkle Durkle friends seem to think it gives them some kind of moral high ground to insist they “can’t lie in bed, I’m always up at 5am” …….who cares ?
Being an ex agency worker meant all kinds of weird and wonderful and very often unpredictable hours and shifts.
As a consequence my sleep pattern is still pretty appalling. That’s why I’m regularly on the forum at ungodly hours. I’m not even Australian!
I might as well change my forum name to Nosferatuboot!
I do indulge in a power Hurkle Durkle from time to time
That’s the worst thing about getting older, they say your ability to truly enjoy a deep sleep lie-in diminishes. But being unable to sleep doesn’t mean you can’t hurkle durkle to your heart’s content.
