How Do You Find

How are you finding this, as you’ve grown older?

Cutting your toenails?
Do you have to soak and soften the nails first ,in a bowl of water?

Maybe you visit a podiatrist?

I hate cutting my toenails with an absolute passion always have and has little to do with getting older though not being as supple as I once was adds to the unpleasant chore.
I used to have a brilliant pair of scissors for the job but they vanished and I have been unable to replace them so I use a mixture of clippers and rubbish scissors.

I think you will find, the nails are much more difficult to cut, when you get older ,for some ,they are lacking something, not sure what it is, I’ve cared for the very elderly and there is no way we could cut their nails, they had a podiatrist deal with their toenails.

Another lady I cared for, was a trained nurse, she would not let anyone go near her toenails, she soaked them in a bowl of water, to soften them, before she could cut them.

I bought a pair of nail clippers for my own toenails.

Outside sitting on a low wall (2ft) so that I can prop one leg crossed onto the other. I use a strong pair of Wilkinson clippers and cope reasonably well. I prefer to cut outside as my nails tend to become missiles during the cutting session.

Long handled garden shears does the job :joy::+1:
Seriously i have nail scissors, like pliers, for my big toes and ordinary clippers for the rest.
Always after a shower so they are softer. Foot up on side of bath then bend to reach them no problem :+1:

Mine do as well,:joy:…so am now confined to cutting my toenails ,in the bathroom, which is very small and of course, door closed.

I found mine tend to tear when soft and hence my sessions are outside when dry and hard(ish) with the strong clippers.

My work is foot health care as some of you may remember . I’ve cut thousands of toe nails so may I suggest not to soak your feet as cutting the toe nails is more difficult due to the softness . Cutting with a a pair of good nail clippers is a must , scissors make it harder . Also if you shop in Superdrug Stores they sell a superb pair of nail clippers for about £8 . They are sharp and last years.

Now of course I’m older and have to do my own , I stand with one foot on the stairs it’s easier

Good grief, that’s taken me back to when my girls were tiny. I always did that to them so as to avoid any possible cut toes from Dad with clippers/scissors. Finger and toe nails were bitten by Dad and each session was turned into a fun cuddle too :+1::hugs:

Thanks for this advice,Susan…I remember you helped me with my toenail fungal problem.

Been using tea tree ever since…my toenails are clear and look lovely, thanks to you.:+1:

That’s good to hear Pauline. T tree oil is fantastic I use it for everything . The cost of toe nail ointments and paints is very expensive I always tell folk not to pay out for it .
