When I was younger, I worked as a nightclub bouncer. I also did part time work with disabled children & volunteered with the Samaritans. At that point, bouncers were not licenced & got their job through reputation, not interview.
Seen a few Kamikaze fellows, they had no good side.
Meg I really believe that we all form opinions based on what we hear in the news but the news stories donât apply to everybody , so we should all try to keep an open mind. If I have an unpleasant thought about somebody I have learned to rethink it, if I donât know that person.
On the other hand, if I do know them I have no problem in telling them what I think!
I have found I can be very wrong about people who I have formed an opinion of . Being an open person I tend to hope people are decent too but Iâve been so wrong .
First met this young professional couple when they moved next door to me 4 years ago . Very polite well spoken and seemed decent people âŠnope I was very wrong âŠneighbours from hell for 3 years, breathed a sigh of relief when they moved . Never known such rude disrespectful people .
This was a big lesson for me I now tread more carefully when forming an opinion in fact I try not to .
I have been thinking about this, and I think we are more inclined to form opinions based on what others have experienced, rather than what we ourselves have. Its perfectly naturalâŠits a survival tactic. You would avoid a person or situation based on how others have experienced it, and I donât think there is anything wrong in it. We do seem to get lambasted for âbeing judgementalâ though, which can be unfair towards the person/situation, I knowâŠbut generally I think that is how opinions are formed. Its whether or not you are willing to change your opinion from what it was, based on your own experience, that makes you grow as a person.
Did that make sense, or am I just waffling. Only had one coffee so not quite as streamlined as usual!
It is a sad fact that we are influenced at a much earlier stage of life!
As a child my mum was always critical of neighbours who didnât feed their kids as well as she did, but it was my dad that worked hard to earn the money to do that. !
As I grew up I always made sure we had good meals & would help poorer people that could not afford good food⊠but her teaching has made me feel that my responsibilities should be fed well , so now my cats are often fed on luxury foods⊠and maybe are a bit spoiled!
I just think that many insignificant ideas are responsible for the way that we think about different things & I often work out who was responsible for me thinking that way! Good or bad things!
Most if not all form opinions based from personal experiences in our life, upbringing, associations, social media, Film, TV even gossip, like it or not all registers in our head/mind as a memory which will pop up and make us think when having to decide on something
We are all judgemental in some way or another, a large stray dog barking, comes bounding towards youâŠ.two young lads in hoodies bang on your front door 3-00 am shouting open up we been in a car crash and need help. To panic or not open the door, is that being judgemental
In those circumstances I would first ask if anybody was hurt, by shouting through the door, and offer to call 999 for assistance. Otherwise I would try to contact other neighbours to assist as most lads with hoodies would have mobiles and could call for help themselves!
Like myself I believe many would be cautious, taking the same actions you suggest.
