But surely I’m allowed to have tax relief of £45 per mile when I drive to and from my tuttees?
Never did fully understand the decimal point

Oh dear. Her resignation will mean a drop of around £67k in salary.
I suspect there may well be a flat in Hove for sale in the not too distant future.
Tangled webs, eh?
But think of tax saving.
One thing that also comes out of this fiasco - the right wing press finally land a killer blow to Rayner. She is intelligent, articulate and able to command respect in debates. And of course a left wing woman. Exactly the sort of person the press like to find something to shout “hypocrite” about.
Having read a bit more on this stamp duty issue, it seems Rayner was dumb to think that her Hove flat purchase was not a second home purchase. Given that she’d already been put through the “hypocrite” accusations over council house sale then you’d think she would try to be squeaky clean on this property purchase.
I would however point to the many tory MPs who pushed forward the companies of their friends for PPE contracts. Which is worse? And why are none of these MPs being hounded?
One out all out I say. Time for an election
Because they are not in power, simples.
Socialism is no more, folks work weekends for no pay incentives, no picket lines, no industry, freebies come without graft, it was always on the cards, but, capitalism is on the ropes also, the plot thickens
Her resignation made our radio news this morning and also the trouble the Starmer government is in. I think they forget that the UK term is five years quite unlike the three here.
My grammar let me down - I should have written “why were none of those MPs hounded” - when they were in power. And the simple answer is that the right wing press decide who they hound and when.
Still, if they are so keen to attack Rayner then that shows she is seen as very capable and worth the effort of digging dirt on.
The sad thing is that while the likes of the Mail and the Telegraph expend their journalistic effort on second home mortgages, this means their resources are not being used on seriously big issues.
Mouthy lefties are prime target.
I think you have a valid point that articulate, informed socially responsible politicians rile the right wing because their arguments damage the right wing comfortable way of thinking that benefits the wealthy right wing.
It’s not just the right wing though, the leftie have no sympathy for anyone with a £800K second home.
That’s the trouble with owning large expensive properties, it’s easy to misplace your scruples!!
The problem is the Labour party long ago forgot their roots - the reason the party was formed. They, like the majority of politicians, only seek their own advancement and privileges.
I’m all right Jack keep your hands off my stack!
That is not completely accurate. The wealthy right has no problem at all with wealthy right people owning an expensive second home. Many, in fact, do and no-one bats an eyelid. The right have a real problem with a left wing woman owning a home that they define as a second home. That really annoys them.
We are not anti successful people, we are anti those public figures that cheat and lie, crocodile tears on TV saying the money’s in trust for her son. We have no sympathy.
It is hard not to agree with that sentiment. However, that is not the same as saying MPs (ministers even) on the left need to live in small, low cost housing.
You are right, the right wing press have really found a story that presses all the buttons.
