Hopi Ear Candling - has anybody ever had this treatment?

I’m so sorry to read of Your problems Mups…I didn’t know

Not to worry May, but thanks. x

It’s just that some people produce more ear wax than others do.

Just like some people sweat more than others.

(Not wishing to suggest for one moment that ladies sweat, of course. As we all know, horses sweat, gentlemen perspire, ladies ‘glow’!)

I can see you have been very well trained m’dear.

If you get wax in one of your ears, just get someone to blow in the opposite ear to clear it out.

You are asking for a good clout, young man.

Smart thinkin’…NOT…but I suppose this would only work for some Men who have bugger all between Their ears

To be honest, I was surprised to learn that ladies actually produce ear wax.
After all, it’s not a very ladylike thing is it? Yuk!

Oh, tut. The language you hear on here.

Hmm…neither is farting…but…We still do it…Ask Yer Wife :-p

Oh I forgot…You’re an example to Us all :081:

You’re quite wrong. My wife never farts.

It’s the next step down from calling you a hysterical female. Until recently doctors would assume that the womb controlled female emotions hence hysterectomy as the ultimate cure…

Stick your boobs in his face next time and ask him he feels anxious.

As women, there is too much acceptance of mediocrity in our healthcare interactions. There is a hidden bastion of sexism and it’s directed at women by both male and female medics. It’s down to patriarchal attitudes in healthcare going back centuries. We all know the speculum was invented by a man.

HMM…do tell,…as the Mother of a profoundly deaf Daughter…been through all the shit mostly from Male.‘Specialists’…Gawd!..I could write a book

I am hoping to hear back next week from the secretary I spoke to.
If not, I shall be on to them again.

I really could do without all this hassle, and feel it shouldn’t be necessary in the first place.

Like I said earlier, this is yet another reason why telephone consultations don’t work. If the consultant had bothered to actually see me, he could gone through the scan with me, or I could have asked to see it while I was there, but this isn’t possible when all they do is ring people.

Oh well, we’ll see what news I get next week - if any.

Trying to be positive here, this Covid thing can’t possibly go on for ever and when things improve we shall, once again, have the benefit of face-to-face consultations.

When that happens, please remember to ask him to show you a comparison of images of each middle ear area. My bet is that there is where the problem is likely to lie.

Nice idea, JBR, but I can’t ever see that happening because it doesn’t seem like he intends to see me again.
As I said earlier, he has referred me back to my GP because according to him, the MRI didn’t show anything wrong.

Mups if you have middle ear trauma from the fall then there’s likely not much they can do (without making things worse), other than wait and see if it heals. Have you had any improvement in your hearing at all? The covid situation is not an excuse for not seeing you face to face. Or at least a video consult should be arranged. If the consult guy won’t go through the results with you pressure your GP to get hold of them and go through the MRI and CT scans. Being deaf in one ear following a fall is a disabling injury and not to be taken lightly by medics. It’s a good idea to take an advocate with you to appointments or have a conference call informing the GP that someone else is present to support you.

It’s not allowed, Annie.
There are notices up saying unless it is a child or someone disabled who need a carer, only one person can go in.

I’m going to try ringing the GP’s again today, and see if they have a copy of the hearing test.
A real trial of patience that is, after all the "push button so-and-so ", then a recording saying you are 14th in the queue, then being left with that awful, awful, repetitive music, only to not be allowed past the rude receptionists!
We can but try.

Don’t waste your time with an inefficient GP practice.
Go to Boots, or any other, (yes, they’re open) and ask for a hearing test with a view to buying some hearing aids. Don’t worry. You don’t need to actually buy any, though I did.

You’ll get a fair and complete report.
More evidence to take to your doctor… when you can get through to them.
