Hopi Ear Candling - has anybody ever had this treatment?

You can ask your GP for a second opinion of the hospital records from another specialist. Or you could ask the hospital for this when you make the information request.

You might want to leave the vaccine out of any discussions with medical professionals as this might make them less willing to help plus it introduces another variable which will not aid diagnosis. The fall may have been caused by the vaccine, but the hearing loss is going to be down to the trauma of the fall. Best not to give them any ammunition.

It’s bad enough that you are a woman and therefore they can pigeonhole you right away into a sexist box labelled hysterical, mentally unstable, hormonal etc. This is what they tend to do no matter how old you are a woman is rarely taken seriously by either male or female medics. Being a woman in the “we are not sure what is wrong with her” label they will try to convince you it’s all in your head.

Mups - you are entitled to see your own medical records - either by visiting the hospital and reading them personally or by being sent copies of them - including pictures of scans etc., which are usually put on a CD/DVD. Most of the time these are free - some places charge a small admin fee.

I should think you are furious too.

I’ve read the replies since but just wanted to add that Mrs Zaphod thought that the input from another professional (as in having a hearing test) might at least provide a bit of comfort.
For example if they know of a few people with the same problems OR if not & they say they will refer you to your GP.

Who knows; you might just get your copy of your own results.
Just so’s you know though it can take ages for the MRI scan to be read and then for it to get to where it needs to go.
You might well get a letter or phone call from that specialist yet if the MRI has shown something up.
Fingers crossed for you.

Mups did they do a hearing test in hospital?

I shall make sure not to mention that to Marge, as she’d be right round to sort you out, Miss Annie.

Ask to see the CT or MRI of your middle ear - both sides for comparison.
That’ll give them the idea that you know what you’re looking for and, consequently, they’ll have another look!

Happens all the time to female patients JBR. Doesn’t matter whether the medic is male or female. I think they must be taught this as part of “patronise the patient” training in med school. If medics don’t find a cause they start to treat it as “psychological”. I’ve even had a doctor hinting that perhaps my severe allergy that required A&E oxygen monitors etc. was psychological despite the fact that I nearly died. I find most doctors useless at diagnosis when more than two variables are at play. The only way to prove them wrong is to die of a condition.

Even then, they wheel out the old “There are lessons to be learned from this” but still the mistakes get made again.

Or “died of natural causes”…

Yes, which means absolutely naught, for the family.

By gum, you’re spot on there Annie. Already had a hint of that from the first consultant who tried to find a cause for the constant dizziness! Cheeky blighter said it could be ‘anxiety’!

I have never heard of ‘anxiety’ making someone dear.

He’d have been deaf if I had boxed his ears when I heard that.

Thank you very much for that information.
I will keep that for future use if necessary. :023:

Yes. It was a private appt. at a private hospital.

Yes, how many times have I heard that particular phrase after some sort of disaster:
“lessons have been learnt”.

What a load of rubbish. As if that excuses anything.

This is the trouble with all these stupid telephone appts. JBR.
If they actually SEE you, they could go through the scan with you - but the lazy gits just phone you instead, so you get to see nothing.

They are not afraid of catching covid when they are taking your money for face-to-face appts. are they, but since I changed back to NHS it’s a very different story. Suddenly no one can see you!

I think that is disgusting quite frankly…I thought the Hippocratic Oath applied to everyone! They should be reminded of that, jeez

Ear candling ,You’d have to be desperate to try that,
I’ve been a martyr :-p to hard wax in My ears since I was a Girl…no amount of oil or stuff from the chemist will get rid of it…Syringe is the only remedy, and I have to have it done every 2 years or so…no explanation from Doc/nurses as to why I get it,…I just do  :-p

Daft question probably, May, but I suppose you have asked them why? What do they say?
Perhaps they don’t even know?

As I’ve said in earlier posts though, they said I have no wax, so at least I can rule that out.

You’re right Mups…They don’t know…I used to think it was because I used to use hairspray when I was younger which may have caused it…but…aint used any of that for years…still get the hard wax…still need the syringe.

I have been on to this this morning Zaphod.
I got in touch with the ENT secretary and asked her for a report on the audiology results.
She said she will have a look and see if they have it, and if so, she will send me a copy next week.

If she hasn’t got a report, she said I will have to get in touch with the audiologist himself.
I asked for his contact details, and she said she doesn’t have them!!

I reckon they’re having a larf with me!
I won’t be letting this go.

BTW, I had a long chat with the ear candle lady today as well. She said if I have no wax, then the candles will not do anything, as it is mainly designed to help with wax.
I am glad she was honest, and I will save myself the money now.

Hey May, perhaps you ought to give the Hopi candles a try?
