What happened to Kathy Kirby’s money?
Kirby met bandleader Bert Ambrose in her teens and, despite his being 42 years older and having an estranged wife at the time, began a relationship with him that lasted until his death in 1971.
As well as his jealousy, Kirby had to cope with Ambrose’s compulsive gambling. She estimated that he lost £5 million of her money in London casinos and clubs. She disappeared from television screens, and her record sales never recovered.May 21, 2011
