Hi and a Happy New Year!

Hi everyone…

I am 57 years old and live in Brighton on the not so sunny South Coast! I moved here with my ex 20 years ago from South London. It’s a great place to live but very young - there’s not much going on here for people of my age.

I am struggling with poor health at the moment with a variety of chronic conditions and lost my job two years ago. I have had a very diverse life, was in the music business for some years, have a married son living back in London. I have been very active politically in the past with anti-racist campaigns, feminism and other broader campaigns. I was involved in Housing Co-ops in London.

I am finding myself increasingly isolated because I am rarely well enough to socialise or commit to anything because my conditions are so erratic.

I look forward to making some new friends here!

Fiona, you are very welcome here, I look forward to reading your posts and I hope that you enjoy the interaction with the rest of us…

Barry

welcome, looking forward to your posts. I love Brighton always that much warmer in summer than over the sea here in Northern Ireland.

Hi Barry and Jean - thank you for the quick welcome! It’s nice to know I’m not the only person up on New Year’s Morning! I spend a fair bit of time on Facebook and it’s deserted… but most of my friends are younger and were out having fun last night, which is what made me decide to make the effort to make contact with people of my own age!

I did manage to go out for two hours last night to my local (gastro)pub to meet a couple of friends who then went on to parties or livelier pubs. It was very nice but I was home by 11 eating toast and drinking tea in front of the fire with my dog! Lovely - and I was very glad to be well enough - but a wee bit lonely!

It’s very nice to meet you both - I’m not sure what to do next though!

Well hi neighbour!!! - welcome Fiona and very Happy New Year to you - as you can see I too live in Brighton - we’ll just have to meet up sometime. At the moment I’m confined to my home and will be for the next 5 - 6 weeks having only just (5 days ago) come out of hospital.

Hi all - what a lovely busy friendly site - I feel very cheered by it!!

Thanks Barry I will…

Hi Uncle Joe - how lovely to find someone from Brighton straight away! I hope you are ok - can I ask what you were in hospital for?
